Yes, my father has a few. I'm not sure but I think they're from when he was in the Marines.

In our house there are a few long swords and a katana. My dad was cool enough to let me pick up one.
We also have our own little cabin a few states up in the middle of the woods that has ornate plates, knight paintings, swords and everything near the fireplace. It's pretty sweet.

Yeah. It was kinda dangerous though. My "little brother" (like family) was in the SCA. He liked to piss me off by waking me up in really odd ways. He pissed me off in the WRONG way this one morning. So off I ran with the first thing I could reach that would do damage. There we were having a live steel sword fight in the kitchen. I admit to not being a blades master in the least, or all that malicious, really. BUT BOY WAS HE GOING TO GET IT TODAY! I knew they were dull as heck and would most likely bruise, and rational thought was not exactly there for me. Luckily he was better than deflecting than I was at hitting. Honestly, I was so bad at it, he deflected all my would be toughest blows easily. I would have been the level 1 against a level 56. He laughed at me which made me more mad, and more pathetic attempts at harm.
We laughed TOGETHER later about it. Like, after my second cup of coffee.
We decided it was better he didn't have them out in the open, or poke badgers in the eye with a stick in the morning.

Katana wise no I only held the wooden kendo practice ones, our Sensei wouldn't let anyone anywhere near real ones for obvious reasons, but as for the more medieval ones I've held real replicas, and tried fighting with the blunt edge ones, it's alot harder than it looks. A couple of seconds and I would have been dead multiple times had it been real battle.

Real replicas It's one or the other, you can't have both. A real sword would cut through a lot of stuff, a replica would most like cause a nasty bruise or break a bone. Anyway, that line amused me :3

I've only ever held a replica, pretty sure real swords are illegal to own here.

My dad is a kung fu master and his roots trace back to white eyebrow, so... yeah i have, a bunch of times and we own a bunch too. Some of our weapons are really old. And following tradition, we burn incense for our ancestors too, but that doesn't really have anything to do with holding swords

My dad has a pair of Katana. My brother and I hold then from time to time but we have to use the practice swords if we want to spar.
