I have held several swords, from cheap replicas to boffer to real ones.
I don't actually own any variety, but have been considering purchasing a short-sword or dagger for self-defense.

Only replica weaponry and improvised tools of self-defense and mutilation.

Out of curiosity does anyone else actually feel more comfortable when their room/home have swords in them? I'm lying on my bed in my bedrooom and the fact that both a sharp katana and bokken are a step or two away makes me feel at ease I read about a Japanese swordmaster(modern day) who made sure to have a weapon in every room in his home in case he ever needed one. While I'd like to think I keep them close by purely for self defense part of me is just fascinated by them. Sometimes I wonder why I care about being proficient wiith such an anachronistic weapon as guns and knives are far more efficient.

You are such a guy. My brother also did this, and many other men that I know. My son has done the same thing since he was one or two - stashing weapons everywhere (just in case). He's always been pretty manly. I roll with it by mounting our weapons (bokken and such) on the walls with coat hooks. It's economical, flexible, and rapidly accessible when needed.

Nice tip. Glad to know theres other guys like this out there.

I've held many swords. As a Iaido practitioner, I have a few. (The ones tattooed on my back don't count do they?)

I once held one medieval sword when I was on school trip to medieval castle/museum. It was one and a half meter long and quite heavy (2 hander) though I traind athletics it wasn't easy to wield it. It's true that I was only 14 then.

If a badmitten racket that I pretended was a sword and then had a sword fight on multiple occasions with my friends counts, then yes, yes I have. If not, I'm not quite sure. I know there was a sword that lit up that was at a carnival or fair on Halloween and I wanted it pretty bad.
Would have gone nicely with my Link costume.
