I did fencing for five months as a kid and a friend of mine owns a few replica swords from TV shows.

I've held an authentic katana multiple times. I have to say it's many times heavier than it looks..... It's a badass decoration now in our house and doesn't get touched much.

Yes, I have held many swords, old and cheap reproductions. But my best one is beat to hell and not really a sword. It is long bayonet from the US civil war. It looks like short sword and when you would put it on a rifle it would be more of an axe-pike than a spear. When you look at it you think "what a hunk of junk" but it is telling you its story in all those dings. The wooden hand worn by use tells you that is was used alot. Probably more than than man who was using it wanted to. The blade is covered is dings and gouges from hard use. Men fighting to stay alive in the hell that is hand to hand put them on it with rifle-but and blade. The tip of the blade is gone, why? Was it left in a man who was just as frighted as the man who had just killed him? Did it break on a musket barrel as its owner was fighting for his life? It is hard to say how and why it got to look like it has,but I get it out every now and then and let it tell me a new story.

I used to have a practice katana when I was 12. The peacocks we had at my house didn't find me amusing what-so-ever. (And no I never tried to hit them with the katana)
