So recently while talking to a friend complaining about how bored he was and how he watched everything worth watching on Netflix, I suggested a few anime titles he should check out. His response was "I hate anime". I told him that's like saying he hates movies or hates music.

Granted, I'll admit that most of the mass marketed anime's like Naruto or One Piece aren't for everyone. For someone who isn't already familiar with anime, it's hard to take one seriously when you see things like talking ninja animals or a drunk sword fighting octopus.

So I recommend some titles like Black Lagoon, Death Note, and Highschool of the Dead. Does anyone have any anime suggestions for the person who hates anime?

Hentai yes will make him like anime

Also, I have met a bunch of people who hate anime and I'm friends with some of those people...personally it's their choice they can like whatever however, it's hard to talk to them about anything because they tend to like/talk about stuff I don't usually like. :/

And I've been told that whenever I talk about anime to them-it's either childish or annoying >.>

The problem is that everyone's tastes are so different, and most anime haters are dismissive of anime for the dumbest reasons. If it were me, I'd recommend Fullmetal Alchemist and/or Brotherhood, Eureka Seven, Cowboy Bebop, or Gurren Lagann.

In all of these instances, it all depends on if the person in question is a Ritalin-popping viewer who goes into a narcoleptic coma if he doesn't see somebody getting shot every 5 seconds. If he is, then the titles you listed off will work well for him, minus Death Note.

I actually suggested Clannad once to a friend but she said she couldn't watch it because it didn't make any sense and that their eyes were too big :/

So then I gave her something like Lovely Complex and shockingly she liked it and says it's the only anime she likes.

It depends on what that person likes in non-anime. There is everything from Aria the Animation/Natural/Origination (on the gentle side) through Last Exile (for steampunk action) and Bartender (which defies my attempts to categorize it) to Seirei No Moribito. Even the ones that everyone knows, like Ghost in the Shell could grab some anime hater's fancy. For those that just don't like standard anime art, you could try suggesting something like Real Drive.

Ghost Hunt is a favorite of mine. If your friend likes horror, show him the "Blood Soaked Labyrinth" story arc, then calm him/her down with the silent christmas arc.

Kids on the Slope, Tari Tari, Space Brothers; I'd recommend series that are too ecchi and fall more into the slice of life.

Cowboy Bebop, hands down. I know people that think anime is a scourge of this planet, but they like Cowboy Bebop. I'd say it's because of how it was marketed and aired in the USA, it's considered a "cartoon" more than an anime. It's gritty and wild west-ish which are two very American things which make it appealing to western culture.

If I have to suggest anime to somebody new or that acually hates it I would start by recommending theatrical anime movies before a complete series, For example: Cowboy Bebop The movie , Summer Wars, Redline, Samurai X (Trust, Betrayal, Refleccion), Tenchi Forever. Oblivion Island. Ghost In The Shell. Thats how I got Some of my friends into Anime Because they don't need to know the background of the series to enjoy the story and the visual quality is awesome.. Just my Opinion.

People's tastes differ greatly. I'm not sure what to recommend.

Maybe Usagi Drop... (might be a good warm-up).
