well fate stay night did come out first. but In the order that things actually happen the events of fate zero come first.

In my opinion Watch fate zero and dont bother watching fate stay night. fsn is pretty bad.

I wouldn't say that Fate/stay night is bad, it's just got a painfully slow start and they make Shiro out to be a bigger ponce in the anime than he is in the visual novels. It gets better around the midway point and i'd go as far as to say that the last 6 episodes are actually pretty good. While it's not on par with Fate/Zero or even the Unlimited Blade Works movie it's still decent as far as anime goes.

As for the which servant i'd take i'd go with Assassin because he/they complement my style and a small army of ninjas would come in handy.
