Long before the Sun dies it will become a Red Giant, currently predicted to be in another 5 billion years, when it depletes it's hydrogen and helium and begins fusion on heavier elements it will expand and eventually incinerate the Earth. Not to worry though all life on Earth will be extinct during the Sun's transition as the atmosphere and oceans will have beem boiled off by the increased solar energy.

Seriously?

a^m/a^n=a^(m-n)
1=x/x=x^1/x^1=x^(1-1)=x^0

you would think that it works that way, but laws of exponents says it dosn't. thus mind blown.

edit: nm, misread. mind not blown anymore.

my problem is

X^4=x*x*x*x
X^2=x*x
X^0=/=x*0?

fuck math.

More like:

x^4 = 1 * x * x * x * x
x^2 = 1 * x * x
x^0 = 1

Problem is the way it was tought to me.

"Two to the power of seven is two multiplied by itself seven times."

translates to

"Two to the power of zero is two multiplied by itself zero times" which would be zero.

Here is another way to look at it (I don't know if this is academically correct, but it's how I remember it):

0 is 1 - 1, right?
So, x^0 is x^1-1

x^1 = x (or x/1) and x^-1 = 1/x

multiply the two (x/1 and 1/x) and you get x/x, which equals 1.

I understand that x^0=1 mathmatically, just trying to explain that I can't wrap my mind around the fact that something times itself zero times equates to something.

Oh, so many things about our Universe fascinates me.

How time and space are interconnected.

How time is a relative and not an absolute variable, that it can move faster or slower depending on how fast you travel through space.

That mass distorts space-time.

So much I want to know.

Then I'd advise against looking up the Big Freeze.

Being a Physics student doing masters, I have those sorts of moments everyday. Heck, take one lecture course on Quantum Mechanics and you will come out with your mind completely annihilated.

That said those mathematics aren't normally fun for the average Joe, so here's mathematical proof that all women are evil (of course this is NOT true and just for teh lols):

-First we assume women require time and money:
Women=Time X Money

-Next we know that:
Time=Money

-So we have:
Women=Money X Money
=Money^2

-We all know that money is the root of all evil:
Money=SQRT(Evil)

-So substituting the above expression into the equation for women we get:
Women=[SQRT(EVIL)]^2

-So we finally conclude:
Women=Evil

OMG!!! This is one of the oldest jokes but funny nonetheless

• The rumour says that Totoro is the God of Death, so the persons that can see Totoro are actually close to death, or already dead. What that means for the story is that when Mei goes missing and a sandal is found in the pond, Mei actually drowned. When Satsuki is asked about the sandal she cannot face the truth and lies about it not being Mei’s sandal. So Satsuki goes on a desperate search for Totoro, calling for him and actually opens up the door the realm of the dead herself. With Totoro’s help she finds her dead sister and they together go to their mother’s hospital. There, the only one who actually noticed that the sisters were there, was the mother, who also soon is going to die.

And in the ending scene, Satsuki and Mei don’t have any shadows some says.

• The storytakes place in 狭山丘陵 (Sayama hills) where also 八国山病院 (Hachikokuyama Hospital) or 新山手病院 is, which is believed to be the model of the hospital where the mother is, 七国山病院 (Shichikokuyama Hospital).

There is also a murder-case (the Sayama incident) which has many scary coincidents with Tonari no Totoro. Especially that it all happened in May and both of the sisters names actually are May – Satsuki (五月), the name of the older sister that means May in Japanese and Mei (メイ), the name of the younger sister, which is how Japanese people pronounce May.
Furthermore, the fact that the little sister went missing and that both sisters later turned up dead. According to some rumors, the big sister saw her little sister’s corpse and went crazy and later should have mumbled something alike “I saw a ghost/monster cat (猫のお化け/化& #12369;猫)” and “I met a big raccoon” = Totoro, before committing suicide.

I know it's a long read, but this creeped me out and blew my mind at the same time.

Problem is the way it was tought to me.

"Two to the power of seven is two multiplied by itself seven times."

translates to

"Two to the power of zero is two multiplied by itself zero times" which would be zero.

Technically speaking, I would say that two to the power of seven is actually two multiplied by itself *six* times. Which is to say, there are seven twos in the equation, but only six multiplication operations. Similarly, two to the power of seven can also be described as one multiplied by two seven times because there are seven multiplication operations.

(Equations provided below so you can count for yourself, if you are so inclined.)

2^7 = 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2
2^7 = 1 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2 * 2

By that definition, two to the power of zero would be two multiplied by itself negative one times, which (strictly speaking) isn't possible. So that definition breaks down for exponents less than one. Conversely, the other definition does not break down since it can still be accurately described as one multiplied by two zero times.

Although, I don't think any of this information will be at all helpful to you since you seem to understand the concept already anyway. Just my two cents.

As intriguing as that is, it makes my head more since I detest math.
