When my boyfriend and I went to upload new avatars we noticed that we have to crop them..... This wasn't the case before. Is this a glitch?

It appears that there have been set in some new limits on the avatars, can't really give you more information beyond that for the moment. Hopefully Bjaker or someone else can clear things up more in detail. : )

They had rules on the size of avatars before, but apparently not hard limits. they may have changed those limits to enforce the rules that already existed.

It is not a glitch. I think they want to standardize on avatars to prevent users from uploading lengthy images that fill up half the page of a thread. It makes everything look more organized anyway.

To be honest... This sudden change upsets me... Thank you for the help, everyone.

Yes, it's a hard limit to stop people from uploading super long images.

Make the limit no greater than 250x600. This size allows decent creativity and decently small size. Please don't be angry with me, this is just a suggestion.

Okay, I can understand how they get annoying, and lengthy, taking up the servers, but some people have made avatars for other users on CR, they took time out of their life to photoshop images for other users, like "freebies" and even taking requests from people. All of their time has been wasted. It really seems like a fun hobby, as well, even though I never really use photoshop, or have made any avii's on here. Can't it be a bit taller? I feel bad for those people who devoted their time on here making those. A LOT of people did that, too.

Your GIF on the message I quoted seems to be working fine.

As to the length, take a look at the original of your message I quoted. Now imagine even more empty space after your reply that would be the result of an even longer avatar.
