Every year since the first plane hit the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 in New York City at 8:46 a.m., a moment of silence has been observed in remembrance, but on this anniversary NBC's TODAY decided to skip the silence in favor of airing an interview with Kris Jenner.

President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama led the White House in a moment of silence on Tuesday, while the NYPD, FDNY and Port Authority Police observed at Ground Zero, and most of the major cable network morning shows like Good Morning America carried it — but not NBC.

Instead, TODAY aired an interview with Keeping Up With The Kardashians matriarch Kris Jenner, who spoke about the new season of the show and her breast implants.

Not a Kardashian's breast implants being a bigger priority than 9/11.
So disrespectful, NBC.

*waits for someone to say that 9/11 happened 11 years ago and that people should just "move on."*

Can someone please tell me WHY are The Kardashians famous and why the flying fuck do we care enough to give them a show? Seriously, what have they done? Besides that ONE sex tape, WHY do we care?

I've been asking the same question since they got famous.

Its actually the people's fault for watching their show I mean the more attention they get the more money they make over a show and other crap, and they stay in the spotlight longer. After soooo long we finally got rid of Jersey shore cause people finally saw the light and stopped giving them attention and watching their crap....hopefully the kardashians are next cause like it was already said who knows why they are famous.

One man's trash is another man's treasure I suppose... Apparently in this case, it was NBC's treasure... Sucks to be them...

I'm not going to say we need to "move one" from 9/11 because I understand its significance. But at the same time, I have to wonder how important it really is that everyone recognizes its anniversary.

For example, I didn't even realize today was the eleventh until a few hours ago, so in a sense I skipped out on acknowledging the anniversary. But does that mean I'm being disrespectful, or that I don't understand the event?

As far as I'm concerned NBC has every right not to acknowledge 9/11 today if they don't choose to. There are plenty of other media sources that will cover it, and in the end, being able to understand the event as it occurred in 2001 is what's most important. Repeating the sad feelings you felt that day every year is just the extra credit.

I do agree with Reptic on everyone not having to televise 9/11. Everyone still remembers, hopefully, and if not, I'm sure the Internet is available along with other television companies.
BUT!
That is all I agree on. NBC was still in the wrong. I mean seriously, when the heck breast implants become more important than a memorial service? Tell me? When? Did the world change when I went to sleep yesterday? NBC have been doing stupid mess ever since the comedian incident (Conan, late night thing, etc). Probably even before then. But broadcasting whats-her-face instead of a national moment of silence? Not a wise decision. Could've moved it to another day, not like they got anything good on their station to begin with.

Didn't NBC have crazy long delay for the Olympic Games as well? I seem to recall jokes about letting NASA cover it since it took less time to receive signals from Mars than it took for NBC to show the Olympics.

I find myself in agreement though, any type of Memorial Service should trump any trashKardashian cans. Maybe they will feel a real after-effect from this horrible choice, would be interesting at the very least.

To be fair, we don't do this kind of service for Pearl Harbor anymore, even though that was technically an act of terrorism (from Japan no less) back during WWII. People still remember it, sure.. but most of us (myself included) weren't conceived or anywhere near existing at the time the incident happened.

I am sure the base still does hold a memorial or some sort of service in Dec., but the nation as a whole most of the time doesn't even remember the day when PH was bombed.

And honestly, aside from a really crappy movie being made about Pearl Harbor, no one cares.

That is just the way time works. People remember collectively for about 5 years and then slowly, time fades everything. We are now getting to the point where most of the younger generations do not understand the significance of the event because they were too young at the time to know the significance. Remembering in hindsight is not the same as actually remembering because you were there.

The Oklahoma City bombing comes to mind. Most of you I am willing to bet don't even know what that is or when it happened.. or care. Just because the person who committed the act happened to be an American doesn't make it not terrorism. It's still terrorism and it still happened, but hardly anyone remembers and I seriously doubt they hold the vigils for it after all these years, even though to me, it doesn't seem that long ago.

My point is that time fades everything, even memory and loss. As a country, America really needs to move on from the event and progress forward. Getting up in arms about it isn't going to prove a point and it more or less tells the terrorists that yes, they did something that they pissed off a nation of people.. so why not continue doing that? Although, in this case, I would be surprised if the the 'terrorists' could get up enough of a force to do much of anything.

I could care less about 9/11 to be honest as you can find it on almost any channel.

And yes, I could care even less about the Kardashians.
