In Canada at least. If you own something on one format you can make back up copies for yourself and watch it on any format you like.

This means for example. That Yes you should be able to burn DVDs from your VHSs and watch the DVDs as long they are for your personal use and you own the VHS.

or.. for example I'm not breaking the law by watching an 'illegal' stream of anime I have, even if I have yet to crack the cellophane.
