I really like older style 80's-90's anime. However, many of my fellow anime fans cannot stand the humor, art

style,gore..ect of late 80's to 90's anime. The best example I know of is my favorite comedy anime is Excel Saga and

whether it is Excel's "lovely" voice or the style of parody humor it provides. It seem this show is a love or hate thing. So why

do you love/hate it or are you a rebel and just think it is ok?

Bonus question: How do you feel about older 80's- 90's anime and why?

I LOVE Excel Saga, but I have some friends who were a bit turned off by how over the top it was. I loved spotting all the parodies and references that were made in each episode and had a blast. I also enjoy watching older anime from the 80's and 90's, and don't see anything wrong with it. Some of my personal favorites are from this time.

Excel Saga is hilarious. Some episodes are better than others but overall I'd still consider it one of the best comedy animes out there.

It's a great show. I like the style of most 80-90's anime like Evangelion, Gasaraki, Birdy the Mighty, Serial Experiments Lain, Astro Boy, Blue Gender, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, etc.

Excel Saga is sheer brilliance. The late 90's were an amazing time for anime, just in terms of originality. I mean that both in artwork and writing, too. Just listing a few comedy titles can end up sounding like an 'all-time-greatest' list.

More than anything, I think it was the "what the heck, let's try it" attitude that you can tell was at work in the production staff. That allowed all sorts of stuff to just come out of the blue at you. In ES, the characters even attempted to assassinate the guy who created ES, and I think that was in the very first episode! I think ES may have been Nabeshin's first anime appearance, too.

But just think about some of the other examples of originality that were coming out back then. Again, just in comedy, you can find GTO, Hana Yori Dango, Tenshi ni Narumon, Space Pirate Mito, You're Under Arrest, and most of the Tenchi titles.

This was a pretty good show, I always enjoyed watching anime from the 80' & 90's. Blue Gender, Tenchi Muyo, Ranma 1/2, Sailor Moon & many more.. ahh good times.

I have never heard of that. I wish to Google now haha. I feel so left out here. I thought I knew tons of anime shows. But it turns out that I only know like...six percent out of one hundred percent that you guys know of.

There's hundreds upon thousands of different anime in the world today. A majority don't even make it to the US, just the ones that we get licenses for. Though that's in the United States, not sure about the rest of the world outside of Japan but I'm guessing it's similar.

Excel Saga! One of the greatest anime titles produced in my opinion. It's just so out there that you just have to keep watching more and more.

I liked it for some funny moments and shock value up until the last few episodes which I didn't like at all. I felt like they were trying a bit to hard then. But Excel's voice was actually a big plus for me me I really enjoyed her mile a min. mind and the dream scenes .
As far as liking 80's and early 90's anime goes everything on my watch list is pretty much from that era, some of my favorites! Also, the early 2000's had some great ones to..I'm still catching up to current fandoms

I love it. And I think there should be special section of compiled 80s-90s anime on CR dedicated to those.

The theme song, the in-jokes, the upcoming episode introductions, it's all just so fun.

I agree with Nyanako, though. Excel is best from source. Manga is the best adaptation.

Excel Saga is the best. All the secondary characters were perfect, especially Pedro.
