Funimation released the first four episodes of the Steins;Gate DUB about a week ago. I've just finished watching ep 2.
What are your thoughts on the DUB? I think they've done a great job so far. |

They ruined Mayuri.

I'm going to have to agree with Des here, from what I've heard of the dub I really don't like Mayuri's voice. Aside from that it wasn't bad, but I don't think I could watch the dub with such a major character being poorly voiced. Though I will say that I had expected Okabe to be the one who came out poorly in the dub, and from what I heard of it he wasn't bad at all, so I will give Funi credit for not screwing him up too bad.

They did an amazing job on Okabe. If it were only him, then I would honestly prefer the English version, which has never been the case for me yet. I'm OK with Mayuri and and I like Daru, but Kurisu sounds really funny to me. So far though, the English script seems excellent, and I can't wait to see more.

The only good Mayuri is the japanese on! She can't sound good by anyone else. No one can make Tuturu sound better than the japanese VA. (In case you think I hate all dubs, I liked Samurai Champloo's dub a lot, and that's FUNI). |

Champloo was a Geneon dub but Funi licensed rescued it.

I didn't care for the series, i gave it a high 7
flame me... there will always be that one VA that ruins a character whether-or-not it is japanese, english, spanish always that one that just doesn't fit, at least it could always of been scripted by a better VA |

I think that VA can improve from their mistakes for future projects either with that same character or new ones. Everything takes practice and time. My thoughts on the dub, it's not horrible and most of the VAs fit their roles and do stellar jobs of bringing voices to the characters. I see a few newcomers in the mix with the more veteran VAs which is a good thing. It's nice to see more of that with how limited the selection pool is for English VAs so far. As for the anime itself it's a great concept and I give it an 8.2. Both versions of the show are beautiful and great in their own ways, whether it be a sub or a dub. That's just me though. Currently I'm waiting for Funi to release Part 2, whenever that will be. |

I grew up with DUBs, so my opinion might be biased. I think, from what I've seen, that for a show with a subbed version and dubbed version, each one has pros and cons. I just can't make the final verdict on Steins;Gate's DUB until I've seen all the episodes. |

I just can't make the final verdict on Steins;Gate's DUB until I've seen all the episodes. I actually found out about Steins;Gate before it was licensed by FM for a dub and I literally could not watch more then 3 ep's without being utterly uninvolved. But now the dub makes the fast talking and overlay exaggerated dialog fun to listen to and I can actually look at the anime not the sub.. So all in all I think the eng ver of this anime is actually represented more accurately then the original jap. Not to mention the language barrier this anime makes use of. (Like in the jap ver - references to little things of jap culture I had no idea of or the meaning of ) The eng changes it all around actually explaining the references bit by bit. This anime is't for everyone but for the people who like intellectual activity I strongly suggest it. |
