Seems like I can't play HunterxHunter's latest episode on the ps3 which came out less than an hour ago.. Same happened when Sword Art Online's latest ep when I was trying to watch it less than hour before it came out, although that episode is playing now.. I guess it's just the new eps that just came out wont play a few hours after its release, any fix for this?

The reason it is not working is because it only came out less than an hour ago.

There is up to a 7 hour delay for videos to be "synced" with other devices.

Don't get your hopes up. CR has been saying the same thing for over a year now. The "Available 1 hour after airing in Japan" only applies to the website.

In this case it isn't a programming problem but instead one of processing power. Have you ever encoded videos before?

For every platform CR must encode several videos for the different levels of quality depending on your connection speed. Like how YouTube allows you to select the quality level. To keep it simple for this example, lets just say that CR encodes a low, medium, and high quality version for each of their devices. (I do not know how many levels of quality they actually encode for)

From what I can tell, CR supports 6 different platforms (PS3, iOS, Android, Windows Phone, Boxee, and VIA/WD/Roku/Samsung TV*/Vizio) so they must create 6 different encodes at 3 different levels of quality for each episode, that comes out to 18 videos per episode. CR releases multiple episodes a day so then you would multiply 18 by the number of episodes released and you can see how in this example the number of videos they need to encode can quickly become a lot, and encoding video takes a lot of time and requires lots of resources.

*Samsung may separate from VIA/WD/Roku/Vizio but I am not 100% sure. If so, that adds a 7th platform that needs to be encoded for.

CR has said that they are trying to find new ways of lowering the delay so that there is no wait, but so far they haven't said anything about the progress of this.

Even Youtube has a delay between when a video is uploaded to their site and is available for playback on a mobile device.
