An unpopular genre often ignored by the general public.
What do you think of sports anime?

Favourite Sports Anime in no particular order:

1. Prince of Tennis
2. Slam Dunk
3. Hajime no Ippo
4. Eyeshield 21
5. Kuroko No Basuke

You lose the moment you think of sports anime as being only sports instead of anime.

Edit: Oh man, brain is seriously not working at 7am in the morning.

I generally like sports anime with cross game among my favorite series. I also really liked Major, and am enjoying Kuroko No Basuke. Your graphic has chihayafuru included, so if you include games Hikaru no Go and Chihayafuru are certainly among my top series.

I hadn't really thought of Chihayafuru as a sports anime, but ok, yeah, I can see how one can consider it that. Of the few sports anime that I've tried, though, Chihayafuru is the only one I like, and I'm hoping to be able to watch a second season. I'll admit I know nothing of karuta except what's portrayed about it in the show. Nonetheless, the show strikes me as being essentially realistic. I'm inclined to believe a skilled player really could memorize the field, strategize at all those levels, keep track of cards and what not, and knock them away that fast. In contrast, what turned me off Prince of Tennis (or what little I now remember of the first episode of the series streamed or maybe still streaming on CR recently) was the naming of supposed special tennis moves, like a cheesy kung-fu movie. I'm no pro, but did play tennis for many years in my younger days, and this naming thing is so far removed from my own experience that I just couldn't suspend disbelief to try and enjoy the series. It just struck me as way too ridiculous. I just couldn't get over that. Similarly with the mystical heart transplant personality assumption thing that seemed to be going on in Knight of the Area. That just doesn't happen! I can't swallow it! I watched the first few episodes and just couldn't go on. For some reason, I can suspend disbelief and enjoy sci-fi and fantasy and magical girls and so on, but not for these sorts of shows! Why, I don't really know.

(Oh, and I liked Bamboo Blade too. Again, the kendo seemed realistic to me, or realistic enough anyway.)

I'm not usually interested in sport, but these anime look good! I might start watching them if I ever get a chance.

All depends on the show. I could care less about sports, but if it has good characters and character development then it can be a good show.

Hikaru no Go - was one of my favorites.
Touch
Slam Dunk
Chihaya Furu
... lots of good ones.

Enjoy some, dislike some, just like what I do with other genres.

Kuroko's Basketball is the sports anime that made me try out more sports animes.
That anime is so damn awesome :D

I tried Slam Dunk, but it got boring after 7 epsiodes.

My expectations for Area no Kishi was high for ep 2, becaus a friend who has read the manga said that sad scene for ep 2 was very sad in the manga.
Both me and her didn't think it was sad in the anime, she was really disappointed and we both thought they handled that very bad.
And after that sad part the anime turned weird.

You who likes sports animes should watch:
Taishou Yakyuu Musume.
It's an anime about girls back in 1925 playing baseball. A time when girls weren't supposed to do those things, so you guys can probably think how much resistance they'll get.

And I recently watched One Outs, which was great.
Baseball.
Must watch for sports anime fans.

Anyone watching Ginga e Kickoff?
