I am over forty years old. I have been watching anime for the last seven years. I read manga daily as one of my many other hobbies such as reading and walking. I do not believe anyone is too old. I plan to continue watching anime and read manga as the years pass by me. One of my favorite authors, Cassandra Claire, reads manga. "Age is just a number"

I don't care how old I get. I'll be an anime/manga fan 'til I turn blind, play video games 'til my hands can't move and jam 'til I go deaf!

Hmmm. Never noticed this thread before. I am over 40 and have been watching anime since I was a kid. One of the first shows I can remember watching regularly is Kimba. I also fondly remember Speed Racer (Mach Go Go Go) and Starblazers (Space Battleship Yamoto).

GayAsianBoy wrote: I'm 23. Most animes are aimed at 13-18, I think because the main characters are always in that age bracket. I don't think the age of the character determine that entirely. The premise of the show and the content does. You can have an outright bloody gorefest staring a child character and it be aimed at adults with a deep and complex plot, or have a fluffy, lighthearted, and simple show staring an adult character aimed at kids. A lot of shows will try to target 13-18 with it's plot and content because it's also likely to grab an older demograph along with it. If a show is aimed at kids to begin with, it's not as likely to go anywhere with anyone but kids, who make up a smaller percentage. Unless it's just safe enough for kids but twisted enough to humor adults, such as Spongebob, Billy and Mandy, Adventure Time, Regular Show. and some others. Basically, anything that could push PG-13 given a few tweaks. |

My answer for when I went from being young to being old was more a matter of "feeling old" physically, rather than anything mentally. I don't think there was a specific turning point; I just started feeling that way sometime in my early-mid 20's. Then again, my son's turning 17 next year, so that may well have been a contributing factor, heh... (Don't get me wrong; he's a great kid, and I'm proud of his accomplishments.) Mentally speaking, however...I swore to never grow up, early in my life. I've been watching anime and playing games near-daily for the last 30+ years, and have no intention of ever quitting. My tastes in genres for games and anime have varied over the years, but so do most peoples'. I'm well on my way to getting my first board game ready for a prototype to be made, and then it's a matter of playtesting, hiring an artist, etc. before the finishing touches (at least I already have a publisher lined up.) I don't think I'd ever be nearly as happy if I gave up on my passion for my hobbies. At the very least, I wouldn't be here to make this post. |

I'm 30, and love anime. Ranma 1/2, yu-gi-oh, PPGZ, Strike witches, Gunslinger Girl, and Girls und Panzer. Anime is better than the reality/ brain-dead programming that's available right now, and it's nice to see others my age enjoying it too.

I agree with the statement above ,some people "don't really get it"
.I remember yu yu hakusho, inuyasha, rurouni kenshin,DBZ ,wolf's rain ,Gundam wing, samurai champloo . the old school was the best school in my opinion. To me , i'd rather be watching anime ,then to be watching people fight and act brainless on some of these shows today. Not one bit ashamed of what i watch and never will be.Keep watching since you love it. Nobody should be able to tell you what your interests should be. |
