I'm 23 and a lot of the time I feel like I'm too old to be watching anime. I feel really immature at times and find myself thinking if I should just stop watching anime all together. But then I watch a couple episodes and promptly retract that statement. I consider myself a closet anime fan cause no one else in my personal life knows I watch and would be embarrassed if anyone found out. So hopefully no one will ever find out haha.

I used to feel that way in highschool, some people just can not understand nor let themselves even try something different and so ridicule those of us that do. This has been happening since the dawn of mankind, anyone with a open mind and a willingness to try rather than not will always be singled out as strange, weird, immature etc.

I suggest you go to an Anime convention and you will find every age group represented, people from all walks of life, Ive seen doctors, lawyers and I know of at least one judge that is into anime and related subjects. Though im not much older than you, I can say at 23 your still very influenced by the "in crowd". You'll find yourself happyer after you learn that how others see you and judge you is not anywhere near as important as how you see and judge yourself. And if they cant be friends with you because your hobby, then you may be better off without them. A true friend will either not care or try to become involved in your hobby, and any partner (potential or current) will be the same.

Speaking from the lofty age of 40 er... something. you should embrace your 'weird' it will give you strength as you which all the 'in' people become cogs in the machinery of the modern world. It will open you up to new friends as you seek out those who will not judge you. or even even share your enthusiasm.

I'm 36 and still watch anime. Some people think anime is just for kids but those are usually the people who only know about Pokemon and think every anime is like that. In my opinion there are some anime's that kids shouldn't be watching. When I say kids I mean those younger than high school age.

I don't post much here either but I still spend a lot of time here watching anime.

I see the general consensus is mostly mid 20 somethings through this thread. Sprinkled by few a 30s and 40s. I think that's awesome. Keep on keeping on.

One has to look at anime as they would movies. We'll all have a certain soft spot for things we grew up with. This goes damn well with anime.

There'll be the Robotech generation followed by the DBZ/Sailor Moon bunch, followed by the Rurouni Kenshin crowd, leaving a path for Naruto, Bleach, etc etc etc...

Truth is, no one will ever be to old for anime. The Disney crowd is a great example of this for generational purposes. You'll never be to old and I would be willing to bet many will pass such on to their children, who may or may not do the same.

I'm only 18, but I don't see myself giving up on anime any time in the future. It's a passion of mine, and I have no shame in admitting it. I don't wear a badge that says "YES, I am an anime freak," and I don't freely give out that information to people unless they are close, they ask, or they express similar interests, but once they find out, I don't really care. If you're going to judge me for something I do in my free time, then I don't really want to be friends with a person like that anyway.

To fair just because you're not keeping something a secret doesn't mean you have to provide full disclosure about your life. Most of the people I interact with on a daily basis don't need to know about my hobbies, my sexual orientation nor the colour of my underwear.

Was anything said to the fact that the people who created ,design, and produced anime are most likely ....adults?
And if there is any feelings of it being weird for older people to like anime, doesnt that thought make it seem less so?

EDIT: Bad spelling

I'm almost 26 and don't feel too old to be interested in anime. I may not be interested in the same ways as I was before, but the enjoyment is still the same.

I'm 22 and still considered young by others but grew up watching older anime like Outlaw star, Gundam 08th ms team, Tenchi Muyo, Ronin Warriors, and after watching all of those old types of animes it made me like them more than modern day animes. I don't think a single human being on earth is not old enough to watch anime no matter the age. I myself believe when I'm 100 years old on my deathbed I'm still gonna be watching anime until my last breathe.

I'm 26. I don't post at all, but i do read some of the posts. More along with lines with what others have said: More about anime than about adolescent problems. I started with Pokemon, then discovered digimon and, subsequently, Yugioh. I didn't really get into anime until college when i started watching the more adult oriented animes.

An older anime fan is one who's had a part of their life enhanced for what may be many years. If only a few, better late than never for something enjoyable.
