I get alot of "When are you gonna grow up and stop watching cartoons and playing video games" My answer is always never! I feel bad for those people who are too closed minded to enjoy anime and games! They miss out on a good deal of legit entertainment. Way better than all of the teen mom reality crap most adults consider entertainment!

You are only as old as you feel! I refuse to "grow up", it's overrated. It is fun to find people my age on this site just because they can relate a little more than the young'ns, however for me, I will talk to anyone whatever the age as long as they can hold either an intelligent conversation or an amusing one. Also real anime love is for life!

Good thread momokoseiya!

I have been quite curious about this topic for some time. About twenty years ago my kids got me hooked on Ronin Warriors in the morning before school/work, but closer to a decade ago I fell in love with Wolf's Rain and Witch Hunter Robin on Toonami and I was hooked. I suppose I never bothered to ask this question in a forum due to lack of expectations, with our cultures embarrassment and even hate of age I assumed very few would reply and fewer would be honest of their age. By the way I am a 45 year old woman. I was very pleased to see people stating their age and it is very interesting to here of peoples introduction into anime. As with Tefrin my acquaintances also don't get the idea of anime and my kids are to old for me to be interfering in their lives.

Hey everyone! I have commented to Crunchyroll forum posts before but I don't think I have ever started a thread here! So. here goes!

I wanted to address something that have been wondering about for a while. How many older anime fans are there on this site? Whenever I look at the posts in the forums, I see a lot of younger people. It's nice to know that anime is becoming popular among the younger demographics. I have been an anime fan since adolescence. I grew up watching Sailor Moon, DBZ, Gundam Wing, etc. Sometimes I feel like of out of place commenting in the forums because of my age. Yes, I'm 29 years old and by most people's standards I am too old to be watching anime. Anime is a passion of mine and I don't forsee myself giving it up in the near future.

I love this site and the people on it seem like really cool people. I just don't want to feel so lame when I post on the forums. I don't want people thinking "wow, she shouldn't even be on this site. She's ancient." I know it's an exaggeration but I do feel out of place here at times.

Any older anime fans want to chime in? Do you feel like "the old one out" at times?

You're never to old to be watching anime.

Remember, anime has been around 3x longer than most of today's kids saying that crap.

Don't be afraid to speak your mind. I'm older than you by nearly a decade and anyone who wants to cry about age vs anime is welcome to step up and be ready to have their diapers changed.

*chuckle* I thought I was "old" to be here at age 37. My first animes were Robotech, Speed racer, Kimba the White Lion, and Voltron. I didn't know what "anime" was at the time, but it sure was enjoyable to watch. When the Sci Fi channel first came out, they had an anime special on Friday night; Robot Carnival, Lensmen, and Vampire Hunter D. Ahhhh... such a fond memory and my real first introduction into anime as an art form. I actually bought all three of those on VHS a short while afterwards. From there I was really hooked and never turned back. I've been collection anime ever since then. Now that anime is online...? *heh* Hard to pull myself away... I love this place and glad I was able to find it. I've had an opportunity now to watch anime I haven't heard of before and preview many others where I've gone out now and tried to find their manga and OVAs. This place truly is an anime haven... <3

I'm short and thin and look really young... I 've been mistaken for 13 on numerous occasions by countless people.
I got over the fact that I'm short long ago, after I began reading Yu-Gi-Oh, and looking young has it perks: I get kiddie discount everywhere.

... but it's really, really, weird when I'm buying alcohol, because I'm actaully 23.

Lot of people older than me on here. Good to know.

Back when I was a member of animenation we had a member in his 60s who started watching anime with Speed Racer when he was young.

I don't think I'll ever stop.

Oh hey, Wicowboy, you and I are the same age. Nice to meet you.

The first anime ! ever watched was Speed Racer. That give you an idea of my age.
I also have a passion for anime and I comment in the forums. I don't really care what anyone thinks about Me (an old guy) watching anime.
I like it for the pure escapism it provides.
I know that most viewers are way younger than me so I am careful not to say anything creepy and I watch my language and that's it.
Amazing art work, brilliant story lines, some nice T an A, at 57 I love anime and will probably be watching The Last Exile on my death bed.

So true, great story lines and amazing art work are the norm in todays anime. I feel a little sorry for my friends who can't see that.

It's awesome to see older fans posting their first anime shows that watched as kids or as new fans.
I haven't listed my first anime shows yet. So I'm going to list my fist anime shows and their most memorable & shocking moments.

Watching anime as a kid:

1. Captain Harlock TV
Captain Harlock stops killing the leader of the all-female alien race because she is a human.

2. Galaxy Express 999 TV
You either have Javascript turned off or an old version of Flash Player.

Get the latest Flash Player

3. Lady George
Revelation when protagonist is not the real daughter of the family she grew up with.

4. Robotech/Macross
Scale of the spaceship that fits a whole city in its belly.

5. Robotech/Mospeda
Yellow Dancer stripping his/her cloth to reveal her true gender to everyone.

6. Go Arthur: The White Horse Prince
Throwing axes hitting the bad guys

7. Little Women
Episode where Slave hunters looking for escaped slaves and the women refused to cooperate.

8. Treasure Island (dir. Osamu Dezaki)
Long John Silver sinks a pirate ship with floating powder keg.

Watched as a teenage fan:

1. All purpose cat girl Nuku Nuku
Episode #4: two girls at a restaurant getting kicked out.

2. Bastard!!
Episode #5: (now ridiculous) fan service shots

3. Macross the movie
Shower scene, gore scenes

4. Akira
Shocking scene: Tetsuo's girlfriend, Kaori, getting beaten up and clothes get torn.
