I am older and don't plan on slowing down! I have a lot of freedom in my life because I'm a stay at home mom, my kids are in school all day and hubby doesn't care what I like. I like being able to watch cartoons and anime with my kids (who know the difference, lol!).

I mostly feel my age when around people my age who seem old compared to me. So I feel I am unsociable because I have nothing in common with anyone. I would rather be home fangirling over my shows, lol!!

I also felt really old at a convention we went to. I plan to go again next year (I missed the past two years due to timing) because I have become more of a hardcore anime fan since then. I loved being able to cosplay and be around people who liked the same things I do. Even though I felt awkward and old, it was probably the closest I felt to fitting in of any group of people I have ever been in.

I watch pretty much everything. I think I have watched almost every new anime that has aired over the past week with a couple exceptions. It would be nice if most anime weren't school based, but I know it is geared to certain demographics. Doesn't mean that the people watching fit in it though

I'm 26 going on 27 i started with project a-ko, akira and tenchi muyo on the scifi channel back in the 90's
It wasn't until shows like digimon, yu-gi-oh and later dragon ball z that really captivated me to dig deeper and rent stuff like berserk, evangelion and the god awful series a.d. police which i finished like a champ.

Now i'm hooked watching pretty much everything every season while seeking older shows such as.. i just finished galaxy express 999, Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, venus wars and i'm starting the original gundam 0079.

Wow

I seriously thought there weren't any people my age watching anime...
I'm 28 btw and I've watched anime since DBZ, Sailor Moon (and also thinks like Captain Planet, not really anime but still if you grew up in the early 90s very nostalgic...)
I think it's because mainly younger people post reactions/comments. I know I rarely do...
Nice to know there are others out there! ^_^

Thirtysomething here. I've been watching anime since I was a wee lad in the early '80s, and I guess I'm old enough that I can't remember if I've already commented on this thread or not. Now, as far as anime fandom goes, I started getting into that corner of the Internet when Sailor Moon got big (late '90s), so that's my "generation", if you will.

Good to see so many other folks in my demographic here!

i remember when battle of planets and speed racer were new. i used to watch them every day on tv before school, in the 70s.
i think i was an early teenager when macross was on tv. i thought that was the coolest thing id ever seen.
in my 20s when the widescreen HD tvs just came out, i would bring all the new anime i got over to my buddies place to watch on his HDTV. and i ended up getting another buddy of ours hooked. in fact, hes the one who showed me crunchyroll.

Hoorah! I love this thread! Just like everyone else on here I too got into anime back when Sailor Moon, DragonBall / DBZ were on old school Toonami. I still have in my possession a collection of VHS tapes that have most of Sailor Moon and Sailor Moon R recorded onto them (hoorah for a programmable VCR).

I honestly have my moments of feeling old, when I am geeking with my friends at work over anime not that much. However, when I am at an anime con and overhearing some conversations I am like *sigh* I feel old. Thankfully, I remedied a lot of that by volunteering and actually being staff at the con I go to. It is a nice way to enjoy a con, help it get better and meet people who are closer to the older age range.

You are never too old. It's all a matter of preference. And I don't care what anyone else thinks.

heh... Last con I went to I wandered over to the edge of the dance floor to hang out with the only other lady who seemed to be my age. She wasn't a fan. She was chaperoning her teenage daughter....

And me in my Burn Up: W costume.

I am 36, so I definitely fall into the "older" group. My teenage daughter is the one who forced me to sit down and watch anime with her on Hulu, and I was pretty freaking amazed at the original story lines and the ability to make me really feel for the characters. My preconceived notions of anime were completely blown away. Anime made regular television look stale, boring, and lifeless. Since becoming a fan last year, I've converted my best friend and husband to anime watchers as well, so I don't feel all alone in my favorite hobby. We watch and laugh and cry together, yell garbled Japanese phrases at each other, and generally have an awesome time with it. I can't ask for more than that.

Nice! Yeah at the con I work at or any anime con I go to I am usually on the dance floor (for the upbeat music). Hilariously, this is probably one of the few times I am not timid and nervous around new people and just dance with them. Once it gets to the slow music though ... oh look a chair to fidget in. This year a fellow staff member around my age and I were dancing and raving at the front of the dance floor having a good ol' time.

I want to go to a Con...
The Virginia Comicon is coming up in November, but from what I have heard it has minimal anime/manga and is mostly comic book and scifi related. Still want to go though, but I don't think I will if I have to go by myself.
Should make my husband go with me; I mean, I go to the gun shows with him, so it is only fair right?

You are never to old to watch anime or read manga in my books. The bigger the crowd we can get the better. I think that people who were born in the 80's 90's will still watch anime even in there 40's 50's. I'm sure that a few you you guys/girls are big Sci-Fi/Superhero fans, which I can relate to. The first anime that I watched would be Pokemon (Obviously since I was born in the 90's), Sailor moon and Digimon. They were excellent shows when I was a kid, Still following the Pokemon series, I have re-watched Digimon and I'm still debating weather or not to give sailor moon another go. I would`t really call myself a big fan yet since I just started to watch anime on a weekly basis and read Manga before I sleep. But as long as I'm entertained with anime/manga I will probably take it to my grave.
