Wow, I would absolutely back this if it ever goes live. Would love to have subtitled BGC on Blu-Ray.
I remember collecting this series on VHS, back home in the UK. It was incredibly expensive over there - around £30 for a single OVA episode - but considering we were starved for quality anime (we didn't even have Robotech in the UK), it was a must-own.
At the risk of sounding like the crinkly old fart I undoubtedly am, I think 'kids today' have lost a little of the thrill when it comes to discovering anime. Of course, streaming services and 'beyond HD' are wonderful things, but there was a certain charm in trading 5th generation VHS tapes with creepy men outside collectors fairs.

Or the even creepier men who had Betamax tapes. ;)

on a Related Note. Remember when Tenchi Muyo, El Hazard and Bubble Gum Crisis were a BIG part of a small fandom and everyone spoke the same 'language' of anime.

Now these old shows are a small part of a large fandom... a good thing I suppose. but I kinda miss the days when everyone knew what a Cabbit was. or had an opinion on weather using Cats as armour would offend PETA.

I'm 41 and feel like I've practically watched anime all my life! I must've been under 10 years old and still remember watching Battle of the Planets and Speed Racer. Over 10 was Captain Harlock and Voltron. Robotech put it all into high gear. That's when I started collecting tapes (yes, VHS! lol!) and books. Fact of life was, no matter what was going on, no matter how old I was, a good 2-day anime convention full of camping in the viewing rooms with 40 other anime lovers always made me feel TONS better! Nowadays, I watch anime more than regular TV, so yes, it's a love for life!

At a recent convention, the streaming Crunchyroll screen had a bunch of folks saying "Hi Grandma!" to me and my partner.
LOL! Yes, we were the "old people" in the screen! But you know, after all these years, the anime bug has only bit me harder.
I watch MORE anime than I ever have. I'm inspired and learning Japanese, and before I die (:P), I'm going to Japan!

I'm 26 and a wife and mother. I've been watching anime since I was really little. I think my first ones were Transformers, Sailor Moon, Ranma 1/2, and Robotech. I am openly an Otaku. All of my family and friends are totally cool with it. Sometimes I get called a nerd, but that's ok. If being an Otaku makes me a nerd, then I am most certainly a nerd! <3

32m, first anime was Urusei Yatsura. I like harem comedies, school and sudden girlfriend comedies (all on the ecchi side i guess). My wife 33f first anime was the original Neon Genesis Eva. She likes a lot of the same as me. We both watch anime daily and attend at least one convention annually. This year was AX2013, previous years mostly sakura-con (we are in Washington state) and next year we would like to attend the con in Vancouver BC as its about the same driving distance as Seattle. We both have the beginnings of Itasha cars (anime sticker cars). Mine is Miku, her's is Sonico. We have many figurines, mostly girls, and we started with the BOME collection, and we are nearly complete. We now mostly collect those we either like visually or girls from our favorite animes. Our likes of anime and the related hasn't waned at all, nor do we think it will any time soon. We both dislike imposed censorship on anime, as we have been around long enough to remember when both anime and hentai was not, and now is... depending... kinda feels like something has been taken away. We hope that western culture doesn't create an adverse effect on anime and take away its uniqueness that we like about it.

I am older and don't plan on slowing down! I have a lot of freedom in my life because I'm a stay at home mom, my kids are in school all day and hubby doesn't care what I like. I like being able to watch cartoons and anime with my kids (who know the difference, lol!).

I mostly feel my age when around people my age who seem old compared to me. So I feel I am unsociable because I have nothing in common with anyone. I would rather be home fangirling over my shows, lol!!

I also felt really old at a convention we went to. I plan to go again next year (I missed the past two years due to timing) because I have become more of a hardcore anime fan since then. I loved being able to cosplay and be around people who liked the same things I do. Even though I felt awkward and old, it was probably the closest I felt to fitting in of any group of people I have ever been in.

I watch pretty much everything. I think I have watched almost every new anime that has aired over the past week with a couple exceptions. It would be nice if most anime weren't school based, but I know it is geared to certain demographics. Doesn't mean that the people watching fit in it though

It's great taht you are determined to go to cons. The more people who do that the better it will be for all of us!

I'm 26 going on 27 i started with project a-ko, akira and tenchi muyo on the scifi channel back in the 90's
It wasn't until shows like digimon, yu-gi-oh and later dragon ball z that really captivated me to dig deeper and rent stuff like berserk, evangelion and the god awful series a.d. police which i finished like a champ.

Now i'm hooked watching pretty much everything every season while seeking older shows such as.. i just finished galaxy express 999, Nausicaa of the valley of the wind, venus wars and i'm starting the original gundam 0079.

Isn't Galaxy 999 cool? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vvx-XW5m6Ok
