Pretty interesting topic. I'm actually a bit surprised to not only see so many 30+ year olds posting on a forum, but also active anime watchers

when it comes to anime/manga, age doesn't matter to me.... I don't feel old but I'm freaking 28!!!

I remember the good ol days of Tenchi, cowboy bebop, gundam wing, heck even sailor moon and that awful dub of it!!!

I'm currently still into naruto (despite the awful fillers), hunter x hunter, atttack on titan, and berserk... When I get my house in march of next year, i need to do a old-school marathon of past anime's...Get that nostalgia going

I actually didn't get into anime until around 2005 or 2006. The first anime I ever saw was Inuyasha, and I thought that it was different from the things that I normally watch, and expanded out from there.

Besides Pokemon, DBZ, and the other really popular ones in the 90s Inuyasha was the first one I really watched too. I think It was around '03'-'04

We only had one channel that aired anime in Canada and they would have two new episodes of Inuyasha every weekend, but I don't think it ever actually finished

Past that, I didn't really start getting into anime until a few years later with Bleach and Naruto. I've never really been super into it for a long time however, usually a couple months at a time. I'm pretty sure I've actually only finished around 20 anime total.

Remember when Tenchi Muyo, El Hazard and Bubble Gum Crisis were a BIG part of a small fandom and everyone spoke the same 'language' of anime.

Oh, I do, I do. Quite fondly, in fact. These days, however, that would just get me called the W-word.

And I remember the days of paying $30 for a VHS tape (subtitled; dubs were typically cheaper).

Back in my day most anime wasn't made for an international audience and the choices were very limited.

We didn't watch anime on the internet and we didn't have pay tv, either. We only saw what was broad cast on regular tv which was mabe one or two cartoons a week.

I still remember watching astro boy on a black and white tv (because our tv didn't show color).

Greetings all!

At 46, I'm a bit of an old-head too.

My first anime intro was to dubs of Speed Racer, Kimba (Leo the Lion), G- Force (Battle of the Planets) and Star Blazers (Space Battleship Yamato) in elementary school.

I fell off the anime planet for a while in the early 1980's with a few trips back for stuff like a Fist of the North Star dub, a Voltron dub and I think a little Astro Boy. There was a bit of watching over my son's shoulder with Poke'mon, Yu-gi-oh and Digimon in the 1990's. And then I dove in head first with a dub of the first Tenchi Muyo movie around 2001 and never looked back. I now have almost 100 anime under my belt and have no plans of stopping my delighted consumption!

BTW, rcsatcrunchyroll about this:

What, pray-tell is 'the W-word'? I admit to cluelessness on this one. ^_^

IM 29 and i love anime, don't matter how old you are because age doesn't matter because you age on the outside not the inside. You love anime because it is what you grew up watching and it makes you feel right at home. If i never watched anime i don't think i would ever draw but thanks to anime's like DBZ, sailor moon, Zoids, outlawstar, and Trigun I have a passion to draw.

I didn't mean speaking japanese I meant.... like... you could compare say Monsanto to GENOM and people would know what you meant.
or mention B-ko's dad and get all kinds of reactions.
or say something like 'Guarded by homicidal wooden beer cans' and again people would know who you were referencing.
or just Mention 'how to kill' Magazine and have people start laughing.

Nowadays there's too many anime and the fandom is too... balkanised.... to have that common reference base.
