I'm 33 and I remember this one Japanese kid looking at Dragon Ball cards in elementary school. He got me into anime, and his mom would take us to Japan town in San Jose to rent dragon ball vhs tapes, which weren't subtitled back then. I ended up seeing all of DB in japanese at first with commercials lol, those were good times. Then years later i saw an anime called Gunbuster, after that i been hooked and will never stop watching anime. And till this day Gunbuster is my favorite anime of all time. If you haven't seen it, you should:D

btw great topic, im not alone:)

Eh, its not so strange to find older people on here at all. Its my personal experience that peoples interests never really change, but rather expand and grow as they get older. Considering anime had started seeping into mainstream America at the very latest by the early 80's with shows like Robotech and Voltron, a lot of the so called "older crowd" has been exposed to anime since they themselves were little, and so if they were into it then, they are probably into it now assuming their lives have time for it.

I was I think 5 when I got hooked on Robotech and most people who were that shows target audience were 10 years older that me. Not to mention that there were college age kids who weren't afraid to be a little childish as well parents who were looking to share some common interests with their kids. So even though Im in my 30's I only consider my self at the younger end of the original fanbase that anime has in america.

If anything might skew the age you might see on crunchyroll its probably due to a lack of time or glut of obligations for older folks that they don't have as much time for their hobbies as a minor would. Not to mention a lot of us older fans might be spending more time watching older works that aren't available on Crunchyroll. 3x3 eyes is still an anime/manga I pick up and watch/read from time to time for instance, and I doubt most younger viewers have even heard of it.

You definitely aren't too old to be here.

Hey I am 33 an love anime an so does my 12 year old son. We watch some of good ol' anime like the ones i started on ( DBZ, Zach Bell, cowboy bebop, trigun, gantz an of course Berserk) that is just to name a few. Then we watch some of the new stuff (SOA, Bleach, Black Lagoon, Naruto) an the list could go on for a long time. Listed above is one of the biggest reason i watch anime it gives my son and me something to bond over. Plus i just love me some anime an i will watch to the day i get cut down by ninjas.

I am 33 as well, and loved watching Thundercats and Voltron on Saturday mornings...never knowing they were anime at the time. During my teenage years, my dad was into all sorts of "cartoons" and watched Xmen, Spiderman, and Digimon. But I really got into anime when I started gaming with my husband about 10 years back, and I have since become an addict.
Now if I am not watching an anime, or reading some manga, that would be highly suspicious.
My husband wants to know when I am going to quit, but as long as we have streaming broadband cable and I can afford it, I will keep watching.

I do not like watching TV much it the same old thing over and over and the getting 10 min of advertisement for 20 min of programming is silly to me. A much young friend taught me about the anime one line i watch it off and on for over 15 years,

You know if some of you started posting, we could probably vary the forums from being all this adolescent talk.

Is this the thread I show my wife to prove I'm not alone in watching Anime at my age? :)

Like KrimsonGray I watched Battle of the Planets when I was younger, and then it was a big gap before I discovered Anime that hadn't been butchered. Saw Martian Successor Nadesico on TV and from then on I was hooked. It's been downhill ever since.

I like the fact that I can watch current shows from Japan without resorting to Bittorrent. I don't buy many DVDs because most shows I'll only watch once, but I feel I'm at least paying the creators of the show something via my Crunchyroll subscription.

I'm 23, so I probably qualify as being on the young side of the older crowd. I know my friends are sometimes still surprised that I keep up with anime as much as I do, but it's something that I can't see myself giving up any time soon. My afternoons in middle school consisted of going home and watching Dragonball, Sailor Moon, and Gundam Wing. Some of my closest online friends are ones that I made from bonding over Yu Yu Hakusho in high school. Anime has been invaluable to me over the years.

wow
thank you for the thread
i felt so old the other day (thinking maybe i watch to much of this stuff)
my students were talking about naruto shippuden (i think that's how you spell it)
and i told then to stop because i had not finished the regular naruto just yet
a hush fell over the room
and one of the boys replied you watch our stuff
my backbone straightened and i answered yes.
do you watch anime, another asked
i told her i've seen more anime than days you've been alive (i felt super old then because i knew it was true)
none of my adult friends like anime (even though we have a group of anime lovers of which I'm the oldest still none of my peers)
but this thread made me feel so much better. You never do outgrow things you truly love
you guys are my role models

Just about all I watch anymore is anime. Sure beats reality TV. I'm lucky because my 15 year old daughter started watching anime with me when she was little and she still loves it so I have someone who gets the jokes and references. Also, turns out I'm the "cool" mom since I know more about some anime then most of her friends. They have an adult they can relate to and they like that. The women I work with now know better than to ask me what I watched last night.
