I don't think being old watching anime is bad or in anyway weird at all, I think it's perfectly normal.

But what I see as a problem is that anime is more focused on a younger audience, not saying there aren't shows that are very much for adults, but I'm saying that most Studios just keep on making high school anime's, because they think "hmm.. Who watches the most anime? Teenagers... What do they do? Go to school... What do teenagers want? Harem!.. o.o well sorta ", but you get what I mean, there aren't that many adult shows...beside H, but that's not plot focused, which most people probably watch anime for.

Of course I'm not saying that adults can't watch shows that are made for teenagers, but I think this might hurt the industry in the future.

In my opinion, no, but I'm rather old around here. We didn't have anime growing up, we had cartoons. Some of the best were Looney Tunes, The Flintstones, Jetsons, Rocky & Bullwinkle, etc.

I had a 18 year old say "Well back in my day....." all I could think is "Back in your day was yesterday"

Ah i've seen all of those as well, though not like every episode but i could tell you the names of most of the characters haha
hmm when they say old then they must be referring to a generation that shouldn't be involved in anime but is. so like 50-60 plus.

I'[m 55, and still watching anime and reading manga. Seems I just never listened to all those people telling me to "grow up!".

i'm in that upper range age, I have a 17 year old daughter who is about to go to college. I started wanting to watch anime when my little brother was watching robotech, but, I was too busy with school and work. He kept bugging me to watch/read naruto. Got into it through Ghost in the Shell and other seinen category, then slowly regressed into shounen action/slice of life and here I am completely hooked. I teach graphic design so I keep saying I am doing it for the research...

Anyway, to give you some perspective, my daughter is not as into anime as I am but she's geeky (Dr. Who, Dr. Horrible, Sherlock...). We, my brother included, go to Fanime and build gundams. He's in his 30's.

I'm in my 50s and didn't actually really get into anime until I was in my 40s and my step-daughter and some younger friends we gamed with got me interested.

But then I never have "acted my age". I'm punk and was told by a punk half my age years ago that punk is a state of mind, not an age. I think the same is probably true of anime

Add me to the list of people who were watching anime in the 1970s, running anime clubs and showing anime at conventions on Beta, VHS and LaserDisc in the the 1980s and seeing Akira at the movie theater and going to anime cons in the 1990s.

Honestly people who are not into it wont get it at any age. It is also harder to teach an old dog new tricks and they tend to be stubborn as time goes on. Its cool my taste in anime might change but I will probably always like anime. Those that take it a little too far might get burnt out and find a new hobby though. I just watch anime like I do any other TV show. Im not into all that other stuff like figurines and such.

I don't agree. I didn't start watching anime until I was in my late 30's, and I've always kept an open mind with a willingness to learn new things.

Haw, Yes! I was much more narrow minded and smugly certain when I was in my twenties.
