I'm 45 and I remember watching Speed Racer as a small child. I also recall when both Starblazers (Space Battle Ship Yamato) and Robotech (Macross) were brand new to American audiences. I appreciated the quality of story telling in Anime back then (when we didn't know the word Anime) and appreciate it even more now. I expect that as long as Anime is a medium for quality story telling I will continue to watch it.

I am 38 and enjoy anime, like the stories.

I started with watching Macross, then a friend got me hooked on Ranma 1/2 and a few others.

yuup, sailor moon, dbz, nagareboshi gin (silverfang in english?) were my first animes followed by some other animes like uhm... well whatever

but yeah, don't talk about anime with friends unless they start the convo... at this age and as male, it's not that common intrest to share. Maybe if you're female it's easier to ask "hey you like mangaaaa? but as male... nope... no no no

but it's great more and more people find their way to anime/ manga yesyes

The thing for me , as I have only really gotten into anime in the past 5 years or so (hardcore pc gamer tho) was that there is NOTHING WORTH WATCHING ON "NORMAL" TV!!! I just like a good story and I seem only to find it now in anime. So much "American TV" has turned into propaganda for one thing or the next that I can't stand it. yet time and time again I watch an anime and think "This will suck , I must be wasting my time " and yet I almost always love it!! Now I am at the point of watching any and all anime at least once , caus there is a good chance that it will be worth it.

and about being "older" , just means I get to watch my anime on a huge TV any time I want to!!

My beginnings with Anime go back to Astroboy, then Kimba the White Lion, and Speed Racer.

Well there is me who I guess is relatively old, I pretty much love animation in general regardless of what part of the world it comes from.

and then oddly enough there is my mother who comes over to visit for tea sometimes just to watch anime. She doesn't have a lot of shows she likes but the few she does she thinks are fantastic. She likes the slice of life stuff mostly; Usagi Drop, Chihayafuru, Kids on the Slope, etc...

Last time she came over for a visit I was watching Yowapeda and she actually got hooked on it, so that's our new weekly show. She just felt the main character was really likable

Seems that this is an "introduce yourself" thread!

I'll be 29 in... 7 days?! ~cringe~ and my first experience with Anime was probably early Saturday morning showings of Dragon Ball in the early 90's. I didn't know what the hell I was watching, but I knew I was sold. I don't think you can ever get too old for Anime, but I do know I'm in it for life. It got really good when Cartoon Network launched Toonami (1997) and later Adult Swim (2001). After that it was the open seas of piracy and torrents for me! However, after college, I found Crunchy Roll and have been a happy, free, and later Premium member.

I'm currently watching Yowamusha Pedal and Ace of the Diamond. Also, I've recently completed Genshiken 2nd Gen.

PS: This is my first post to CR!

Been watching since the early 80's "StarBlazer" (Battleship Yamato) reruns on my family's 15" tv set with rabbit-ear antennae. Other stand-outs from the past that come to mind are Robotech (Macross), GunBuster and BubbleGun Crisis and Project A-Ko. I still have a hard time trying to explain my ongoing fascination of Anime/Manga to friends. It's just "cartoon and comics" to most Americans and considered "kid stuff."

Wow. And here I am, at 21, wondering if I have outgrown my anime viewing years because I am no longer in high school! I am glad that there are so many older fans out there to give me some perspective.

Hell I'm 52 and I only started watching anime in 2007, if you enjoy it , it shouldn't matter how old you are. If someone think you're too old to watch anime that's their problem.
