The majority of the sites i go on will have an age demographic around my age, and to be honest i prefer reading, and participating in conversations with those older than me. I can only speak for myself when saying this but i think its great that there's such a diverse range of people watching anime. So please, for the love of intellectual conversations, keep posting and don't feel self conscious about it

Hey everyone! I have commented to Crunchyroll forum posts before but I don't think I have ever started a thread here! So. here goes!

I wanted to address something that have been wondering about for a while. How many older anime fans are there on this site? Whenever I look at the posts in the forums, I see a lot of younger people. It's nice to know that anime is becoming popular among the younger demographics. I have been an anime fan since adolescence. I grew up watching Sailor Moon, DBZ, Gundam Wing, etc. Sometimes I feel like of out of place commenting in the forums because of my age. Yes, I'm 29 years old and by mst people's standards I am too old to be watching anime. Anime is a passion of mine and I don't forsee myself giving it up in the near future.

I love this site and the people on it seem like really cool people. I just don't want to feel so lame when I post on the forums. I don't want people thinking "wow, she shouldn't even be on this site. She's ancient." I know it's an exaggeration but I do feel out of place here at times.

Any older anime fans want to chime in? Do you feel like "the old one out" at times?

Yeeeuuupp. Pretty much all of this.

It's funny how everyone thinks they're an 'older fan' no matter how young they are...

I think, I will be watching anime until the day I die. Yea, I have some friends who say that anime is for kids and or immature people, but whatever... I've always been the type of person who watches, listens to whatever I like, without worrying what other people might think.

I've been into Anime since I was a kid but unfortunately it's something I lost contact with, mostly because people looked down at me for it. Then I got to the point where I don't care what people think anymore, I am 26 years old and I watch anime. I love anime. I just bought myself a Shugo Chara (Kyara) cushion cover for my bedroom. I am currently starting the ball rolling for buying a house and hopefully by Christmas I will be settled in. Though married we are buying a three bedroom property so we can have a bedroom each, he has terrible sleep apnoea and sometimes I have to sleep on the sofa because he sounds like an elephant being run over by a jumbo jet on the runway. So the cushion cover is for my new bedroom, my future bedroom, and it will be decorated with anime posters, figures and lots of things. Someone walking in may assume it's for a teenage but I don't care.

I started watching during the dark age of anime, 1990+

You are never too old to watch anime. The genre changes when you age. No more highschool shows, now it's adult themed genres.

I laughed when you said 29, I'm ten years older mind you.

39 here. I started watching reruns of Speed Racer during my preschool years. Then, at 8, I became the biggest Voltron geek. (It has been fun watching the "real" Voltron, GoLion, on CR.) Around the same time, they started showing Tranzor Z (Mazinger Z) on US TV. What adolescent boy wouldn't like a female robot sidekick whose breasts were shot off like missiles? I wandered away from anime until the early days of Toonami. I watched Dragon Ball Z and One Piece, when the latter used to be on Saturday mornings. Another extended break until 2010. Then, I got cancer and became disabled. I started watching anime on Netflix. Luckily, I found CR. I haven't missed a season since. As others have said, I know there is a stigma attached to being a "creepy old otaku," but I don't care. The artwork alone makes it worth watching. Who does 2D like Japanese animators? Computers may well be used to composite and color the cells, but everything is still mostly done by hand. You can't even say that about Disney anymore.

I'm only 18 and I already feel this way. What I'm most worried about is that the older and older I get the more further the anime world gets. I love shounen anime but most of the main characters are in high school so its getting harder to relate. Plus the amount of fan service showing off high school girl in panties makes it harder to watch when you get older.

Gosh darn ringtailed galoot calling me out! I've been watching anime since Channel 17 (the old TBS Superstation) was showing Speed Racer re-runs with Racer X!

I'll be 55 next month, so I'm definitely one of the older ones around here! I started watching anime on TV in the 1960's (Astro Boy, Marine Boy, Kimba the White Lion), but didn't really get hooked until I saw Tenchi Muyo! and Evangelion. Still watching, still loving it.

That is awesome. My dad used to sneak a look at my anime collection when I was a teenager. I could tell when he'd rifled through the tapes, because I always had them stacked in a specific order. He never 'fessed up though!
