im over 30 (and lets leave that at that).

In a way I get what you mean, as anime becomes more popular and the newer generations get into it you start to feel like an old person in a young persons hobby, but really it isn't. It is just because its more popular now and the demographic has shifted to slightly younger audience but that will change.

The issue I have isn't so much liking the hobby, its finding like minded people around my age group in my area.

My friends don't watch or care about anime and the only clubs here are university based and I would feel like total wazzok for going into a student union building when im not a student and im 10 years older than everyone else.

Its hard enough to make friends when you've got a small social circle and are out of university, its even more of a pain when its not a super popular hobby you're into that isn't a group activity.

BTW I am in Mancheser (UK) I know MMU have an anime club, but apart from the occasional facebook reply I haven't got involved with it.

I'll be 55 next month, so I'm definitely one of the older ones around here! I started watching anime on TV in the 1960's (Astro Boy, Marine Boy, Kimba the White Lion), but didn't really get hooked until I saw Tenchi Muyo! and Evangelion. Still watching, still loving it.

Yikes, I graduated from high school in 1966. At least I have something in common with the kids (~20's yr old) in the art classes I'm taking.

Honestly, I feel a little too old for the internet in general. haha

A summer ago, I was on VF trying to make some friends (or meet a boy *wink*) and it seemed like 90% of the people there were younger than me. As a girl, guys are a little less likely to talk to you if you're older than them and girls seem to be intimidated. And I'm only 21!

I've been reading all your replies (sorry to jump in suddenly, but I was going to ask WHO'S THE OLDEST anime fan? but it seems unnecessary (for more than one reason.) I'm in my thirties, and watch anime with my 9-month-old (I know, I know, no TV until they turn 2, but, but...!) I find myself drawn to the random humor ones with thin plots. Life is so serious, it's good to lighten up sometimes. I' lived in Japan, (for nearly 3 years)but I didn't appreciate the easy access to anime and J-Pop. Is it wrong to like Kyary Pamyu Pamyu at my age? Am I just sad? How old is too old to dress Loli (I never tried it in Japan, but man...I should have!) Why haven't I passed JLPT N4 yet when 14 year old otakus can do it?
And so on..

When you're no longer in school, it becomes more difficult to find like minded people. Especially when you and the people you shared such interests with are either too busy or have moved apart due to professions, life, whatever. Despite that, I've never stopped liking anime or felt too old for it. My tastes have certainly changed. I was 16/17 when I got into anime and was attracted to all I could find for the most part. Now I'm more picky with what I watch, when I have the time to watch it.

I don't remember posting to this thread but there are a few others that ask about us old folks....

I used to have my age as 99 but that was when I first started coming here and I thought I had something to prove or reveal....

My age is correct, currently 51, and I still like anime...

I think I said this before... I like anime because it looks like the inside of my dreams....

A panel you say?

Well you could revisit the classics, like Akira, Escaflowne, etc, and what they did for the industry.

Maybe talk about how the market has changed over the years, and why.

Unlike many such meetups, an older age group might actually be in a position to affect the future of the medium, rather than just being fans.

WOW it's so cool seeing a lot of older anime fans! My brother is 36 and still loves anime. But it's amazing to see anime lovers who are in their fifties (and above).

I don't remember seeing this thread before, but I'm 46 and I like watching anime.

That kind of sounds like the opening introduction to an addiction group therapy session.

I'm 34. I don't feel old. I go to the gym fairly often, which helps. I still collect comic books. I watch anime. I like to play in the rain. I still act very shy around people. Most people consider those child-like behaviors, and to them I say....yesterday morning I watched old episodes of Ren and Stimpy while eating a bowl of Fruity Pebbles, and I was happy...so suck it.
