No, the title is not misleading. haha.
-theory time-
I've been pondering something for a while now.
When Ichigo regained his shinigami powers (manga chapter 63/anime episode 19), during the process his chain of fate was cut, right? All in order to force his shinigami powers to surface of course! But doesn't that technically make him dead?
If I remember correctly, when the chain of fate is cut, you're dead. "You can no longer return to your body. All you have left is death."
So, if Ichigo's soul is dead, is his body dead too?
Also, I noticed something in the anime (episodes 334, 335, 337, 340). During the filler arc, when ichigo temporarily lost his powers, he wore a white shihakusho like Rukia did when she gave her powers to him. He wasn't an ordinary soul with a chain of fate.
This makes sense when his powers were later restored (manga chapter 450/anime episode 361). Rukia couldn't just let him borrow her powers again because it wouldn't restore his actual power.
So, this would make Ichigo a shinigami (dead), most likely using a gigai (because once dead you cannot reenter your original body), living a 'human' life.
He is dead. Weird, ain't it?
-end theory time-

Meh, so that's my random food for thought. What do you guys think?

IchigoMoon.

You bring up an good subject.

I was wondering the same thing. People don't pay attention to things like this often. Some would watch the anime or read the manga but don't understand what the anime brings or manga give us.

I was on the same level that in order to save his family. He has to cut his life line to become an Shimigami. And he use an gigai to stay in the world of the living.

Which make you question. What is Ichigo. Aizen even pointed that Ichigo is special.

You're right I thought about that since around episode 20. If Ichigo was dead it would explain a great deal of his abilities, even before he cut his soul chain he lived in an half living half dead state of being. When you remember the fact he was born with a human mother and soul reaper father(possibly of the rank of captain), after he cuts his soul chain he must be dead. Then the question I would like to know is why is he only a substitute soul reaper, and then only answer I could come up with was this. Even though he has attained power to rival nearly any soul reaper, he is still only a teenager and the Gotei 13 have allowed him to serve in a substitute soul reaper capacity until he comes to terms with being dead. He will probably become at least a seated officer when he joins the Gotei 13 officially.

This would have lead to a progression of Bleach making it more interesting. Ichigo is very powerful, and when you consider how much power he gained over the period of time he did, it's quite impressive.

However, he lacks technique. Technique that becoming a seated officer may help him with. If he received formal training in the ways of Hado and Bakudo, it would make him a much more formidable opponent.

oh, right! you've got me thinking there. mind you, it probably has something to do with what the Grand Fisher was talking about; calling Ichigo a "true blood".
