Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide I'm assuming from what this episode tells us that Maria is going to end up turning into an Ogre at some point. If Ogres are violent enough to cause mass murders, it would explain why if Maria hadn't been born, "so many lives would have been spared" as Narrator Saki said in the second episode. And just a wild guess, but I'm assuming Mamoru is turning into a Karmic Demon as well. If not, perhaps something else is wrong with him to cause him to leave, but I have my doubts he's going to be alright in the end. |

Click to show or hide Mamoru isn't going to make it based on what happened at the end of the ep? Agreed. A lot of things got put into perspective and context in this episode, with the official explanations of the ogres and karmic demons, and why their afraid of them and why they govern themselves the way they do. And in regards to Mamoru, they did say the chain breaks at the weakest link, which he clearly is since in the last episode he was ready to break and unable to handle the truth. |

Dear god, this is one of the absolute stand out animes this year for me. The pictures and descriptions really dont do it justice at all, I watched it on an off chance and absolutely cannot put it down. I get feelings of like death note crossed with monster crossed with eva, all in such a beautifully animated world. Bring on 12 more episodes.

Click to show or hide I dont know what'll happen to him, I almost dont care about his character. Im far more interested in the karmic daemon that shun turned into. I still dont really understand why he did, a personality flaw? A genetic problem? Saki's fault? |

This is a show where the ideas get in your head and leave you thinking for a long time. I love it. |

Agreed, this is a great show, quite philosophical. Anyone who dropped it because of a few kisses is really missing something good.
It will be interesting to see how they animate the rest, how the pacing goes. |

Shinsekai Yori and Psycho-pass are both outside of my comfort zone for anime, so why can I not look away? I'm compelled to watch week after week out of morbid curiosity.

Id say the show doesnt market itself well, the image and discretion on CR really do nothing to say what its actually about. Strolling past it looks like a standard kiddie school 'oh no lets mess around' anime, instead I get a brilliant psychological/generally off putting story and morbid undertones. I haven't really this way since I first watched Eva (more the psychological/'I want more' feeling rather than general WTF is this that eva gives)

Episode 13 ![]() Kinda a meh episode imo but the revelation on what Mamoru saw was insightful. I'm glad he's okay this episode as I originally thought something had happened to him when his sled was in the snow. |

yeah so ep 13
still not liking Mamoru's character at all :/ though I did like the scenes when the Trickster Cat was stalking him lol, the mood they create for those scenes were just great I'm guessing in the next ep Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Maria is choosing to stay with Mamoru outside of the barrier while Saki and Satoru return to the village. And I think I see 1 or 2 new characters being introduced it's going to be good |

Probably my least favourite so far, felt like not alot happened especially compared to the last 2. Could just be because i dont care one bit about Mamoru ie 'shinji mk 2'. As for the interesting bit,
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide The tornado that was summoned to drive the cat off, i think it was summoned by shun. Or some lingering part of him, and that he's going to cause some problems. Atleast I hope he isnt written out for good, his death was done in a fantastic way but I actually like him as a character. And if not shun then who? Mamoru is said to have a very weak power so it makes no sense in him being able to drive the cat off, the 3 others didnt know about it and the adults want him dead. Only leaves shun in my view |

Good atmosphere in this episode, lots of suspense but felt like more of a setup episode. Looking forward to the next one, too bad there is a week off but we are spoiled mostly with anime, most western shows have been reruns for weeks already...

Did anyone here read the manga?
In the very first page of the first chapter there's a foreshadowing for a future event. You can see it here if you want to, but be warned that it's probably a big spoiler for what the final conflict of the show will be: http://mangafox.me/manga/shin_sekai_yori/v01/c001/8.html It clearly Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide foreshadowing the terror that the akki(?) will cause. The dead man looks like Kaburagi Shisei, the strongest PK user. The two running are obviously Saki and Satoru, and the one with the long hair that is responsible (the akki?)... Who is that? Is that Maria? Why is she doing it? |

( Spoiler) Hello all, I have come to speak at this thread to share my love of Shin Sekai Yori. I absolutely agree with MountainMew That Maria Is going to become an Ogre. I, myself, have come to the same conclusions. It is my belief this will happen by the death of Mamoru. This will cause Maria, who has very conflicted feelings for him, feelings of guilt, hate and love, to trigger all of her lost memories. Of fear, hurt resentment and anger to the society in which she lives and how she and her friends have been treated. This will further awaken the savage beast aspect in her / in man( the lower three Chakras particular the first Muladhara – Root survival Chakra) they are trying to repress through genetics and conditioning, She will then just become the pure aspect of The Beast.
What makes this anime so profound, is even though they are in a fictional alternate world, they are basing their plot elements on actual metaphysical truths. The society in which these children live, where so afraid of allowing a Ogre or Karmic Demon to come in to being, that they inflicted psychological abuse and death to their own children. In metaphysical terms, They are putting all their focus on preventing mass murders, thus their vibrational frequency become synchronized on the very thing they where trying to prevent. Thus, by the Universal Law of Attraction, they manifested their own demise. This novel/anime is an understanding To put it simply with out an elaborate explanation To quote Stan Lee in Spider Man and Kazuya Kudo in Mai The Psychic Girl “With great power comes great responsibility” In other words, One needs to be aware of their karmic actions and responsibilities. All that one puts their focus on Is! |
