I haven't yet the novels yet either unfortunately. I know there's also a manga out although I'm pretty sure it's not translated yet.

Based upon the cover of the first manga tankobon I think you're right that it becomes more than just a series about telekinesis. I thought it was the wrong series at first, same name only but it seems to be the right one. I didn't order it, more because lately I have only enjoyed the original works though perhaps I would enjoy the artwork at least...

Edit: and apparently it is popular because it was released a week ago and it is sold out... So maybe I should have ordered it after all Ah well, I'm sure they will reprint it.

Looks like it's from 3 light novels. Haven't read them but now that you mention it, I want to buy them... I am turning into a collecting machine...

Not sure if they've been translated.

Times like these I wish I had stuck with my Japanese classes in college, there have been a few novels and light novels from Japan that I would have loved to read.

You can always learn again! It is never too late.

I have ordered the three novels, I'm not even sure they are "light" novels; as if I don't have enough to read already but at least there are only three though they are around 450 pages each so they will still take me a while.

Episode 4

Dialogue heavy episode with some action involving the rat creatures.

So, there are some information regarding "Pker users", the nature of psychokinesis, and other factors. The dialogue is pretty long so might have to re-watch it again..

Also, that cliffhanger

The episode definitely lived up to my expectations. Episode 4 spoiler follows,
It definitely answered some questions, but then last 5 minutes or so raised even more questions, definitely excited about episode 5 though. Fun times ahead.

I'm being a good boy so I haven't seen episode 4 yet, waiting for it to show up legit and in HD here...

But in the meantime my novels arrived. They are real novels, not light novels. No pictures at all (light novels usually have a few pages of color pictures at the front and a dozen or so black and whites scattered through the novel) except on the covers which interestingly have wrappers which not only advertise for the anime but add the characters as well; underneath them are simply landscapes:

Interesting, the 2nd and 3rd books are 12th printings from September 2012 while the 1st book in a 5th printing from last year.

Omg, lucky you! I might purchase them after the series finishing airing but wow...those look good. Wait, are you fluent in Japanese or are they translated? Sorry but I'm a bit clueless on the contents of these novels right now lol

Those are in Japanese. I don't know if they've been fan-translated yet and don't think there are official English translations yet either. I would always read the original Japanese anyways as I don't like losing the subtleties and really enjoy reading the original words of the authors. The story can be translated but the writing cannot.

It was annoying to have to read Black Rain / Kuroi Ame and 1Q84 in English but there was no Japanese original I could find! Reprints of old stuff is very tough to get. I need to troll used bookstores next time I'm in town.

The manga version is supposedly a yuri parody so I am again glad I didn't get it now. It is selling very well however, no surprise.

That's the #1 reason why I'm learning Japanese. You always lose something in a translation, no matter how good it is.

Anyway... the 4th episode delivered in spades. You knew the collapse of civilization was going to be bad, and the explanation lived up to that and more. The kids asked some perceptive questions. They really need to start wondering why they didn't get answers to some of those questions. They've only scratched the surface of the mystery.

I can't wait for ep 5.

Episode 5

Wow, a violent episode especially from the beginning there. Nice bonding between Saki and Satoru this episode tbh even though the interactions between the two imo...are somewhat awkward.

I loved the soundtrack during the second half of the episode but damn, that queen is ugly. Anyways, nice episode.

Eh, i was actually not a big fan of this episode, the entire thing felt really poorly lit. I didnt like the animation changes either, they felt really lazy and choppy. The close ups, facial expressions, and color pallet felt off and the episode also felt somewhat rushed. I was not impressed by this episode at all. I still really like the show though, probably just an off episode. Hopefully next episode goes back to the original animation.

Storyline-wise however, it wasnt bad, it was fast paced and a lot more active than the previous episodes. We learn a few more things about the current world and how it works.

Episode 4.

The visuals, music and characters... wow they are all amazing.
Especially the music.

This and Zetsuen no Tempest are currently shitting on everything else from this season.

I felt the same way. The animation, and even the story telling, in this episode threw me off a bit. I still liked it, but it felt... disjointed.

Overall, it was a good action episode. I also loved how Saki tied the library lessons to what was going on. But I wonder if the distortions have a lot to do with her own mental state. It was a bit disturbing. Then again, so was her reaction to the library.

I was caught up in the action so the animation quality didn't bother me much though it seems the beautiful vistas shown in the first episode were just a one off.

I am hooked on the story so I've started reading the novels. I was hoping for more of an introduction to expand upon the opening scene of the anime but there is no introduction! The first chapter is 260 pages long and there are just six chapters and a conclusion across three books. The novel simply begins in the hall with the fire where they had their power sealed initially in the floating seal so I will need to read further to see how they explain the history in the novels.

I thought this episode seemed a little off as well. What happened to that monk that sealed their powers, and where did the rest of their group disappear to. Good episode nonetheless, and its still one of the better shows this season. Looking forward to next week.

The monk got blown up. That black plastic thing they picked up after the explosion? That was his mouth guard. The rest of the group managed to escape, so I expect we'll see them in the next episode.
