Last season of undergrad college level I attended the seniors had to attend a 1 hr class similar to a sabbatical. In it the professor described in detail what it would be like and what would be expected of any entry-level individual working for a large company with a structured bureaucracy. Since he had worked in industry for a few decades before reinventing himself via collegiate instruction his industrial expertise outshone the other professors who were career academic instructors. Looking back I wish I had taken better notes.

One thing he mentioned when working for corporate (then) was likability. If people in power liked you it was possible to be incompetent and still remain gainfully employed. To the contrary, if they didn't like you AND you were exceptional that positive aspect of you just didn't matter. Likability carried more weight than merit. If you were incompetent but liked you would stay employed longer than being meritorious but unlikable. When he said that in class my initial reaction was that he was full of shit. But looking back on my CAD experience with a curtainwall manufacturer upon graduation from that university I must admit he was right. Actually, reading the cartoon Dilbert in the funny papers accurately reflects corporate life should you choose the wrong outfit for employment.

I'm kind of surprised you didn't realize this from the get-go, likability and personal networking is worth more than years of hard work in this world. It's not what you know or what you did, It's who you know. I certainly don't need a college professor to tell me that much..

So many people enjoying different things/subjects. Thanks for posting guys.

Does slightly make me wan't to go back to school ha.

I can tell you one of the 3 subjects I choose was Drama as I wanted to help out backstage but of course I had to preform which I can say i'm very shy but I can act silly at times but not in front of people. I dropped the subject and had to do life skills haha but I carried on helping as a Tech guy backstage then doing assemblies everyday and events which was fun and still like doing as thats one of the reason I choose Music Tech in college. Setting up mic's/speakers/sound equipment all that...I do miss those days as well.

My favorite subjects were "Intro to Formal Logic" and "Education Technology."

Formal logic was interesting because the professor was very clear on his lectures and made arguments make much more sense with the organization of sentence structures.

Education technology was awesome because it was ridiculously easy and I got to play on a computer for 3 hours during class.

I hated math. I was good at geometry, pre-algebra and calculus, but I still hate em. My favorite college classes would have to be the programming ones. Something about creating projects from scratch set off a creativity bomb in me I'm not a professional but I'm good when I have a goal to accomplish.

Biology and Chemistry labs...

Ofc, my teachers didn't make lecture interesting.

Lab was awesome though.
