As you all have noticed, the anime adaptation contains a lot of plot holes (and most of the time, not explained) because let's be honest, 25 minutes is barely enough to explain everything happening in one chapter, let alone the fact that they are compressing 3 volumes worth of content in 25 episodes.

Ask questions about the Anime here!

Stuff that you don't understand, it could be anything that you are confused about. I have read the novel after I watched the anime and all I can say is that the anime is a very compressed version of the novel. I will answer questions from the top of my head and will be stand corrected if you guys think I am just talking out of my butthole.

Beware of the spoilers, please add a spoiler tag on questions that might spoil the series to non-novel readers!

Q: How are the players still alive in the real world?
A: They were given 2 hours to move the players to a Hospital Facility where they are taken care of. They are fed through a tube and treated like coma patients. A certain organization made sure that within the 2 hours, players are transported to a suitable facility.

Q: Why didn't they just arrest Kayaba Akihiko (Game Creator)?
A: Kayaba Akihiko was in hiding and his whereabouts were unknown. He was kept alive by a kouhai(underclassman) who deeply admired him for his work.

Q: What is 16.5?
A: 16.5 Refers to the Chapter 16.5 where Kirito and Asuna performs sexual intercourse within Sword Art Online.

Q: Is 16.5 a Canon Story? (Canon is a sidestory that didn't happen really happen in the anime)
A: No, it really happened. It was implied both in the anime and the novel that it happened, but due to the demography the novel/anime is aimed to, they skipped it and made it on a separate chapter.

Q: Why is there not much foreigners in the game except Agil?
A: The game SAO is only sold to 10,000 people within Japan. Agil is a resident from Japan that's why he managed to get a copy of the game.

Q: What use does food do?
A: Food is a basic necessity to live in SAO. It doesn't give any buffs but if you consume food, the Nerve Gear sends signals to your brain, making you feel like full. The flavor recreation engine replicates the tastes of all the food within the game to the ones in real life. It is possible to die from starvation.

Q: Do Boss monsters only appear once?
A: Yes. After The Boss is defeated the portal to the next floor is open to ALL players, meaning it benefits all players, not only the frontliners can go to the next floor.
(Extra: All Boss Level Monsters have "The" before their name i.e. The Gleam Eyes, The Skullreaper)

Q: Why is Kirito the only one who has Dual Wielding?
A: Dual Wielding is a Unique Skill reward for the player who has the fastest reaction speed in the game.

Q: How did Kirito give the final killing blow after he himself died? Game glitch?
A: He was not dead yet. The process of "death" in Sword Art Online starts by the avatar body distorting and finally exploding to multiple polygons, but Kirito's was longer because he was trying so hard to resist the system. So yes it was some what a glitch.

Q: How does "clearing a floor (defeating a Boss monster)" benefit players who are NOT fighting on the Front Line if monsters reappear every time someone else comes along?

or

Same answer for both!

A: Yes. Boss Monsters don't respawn. After The Boss is defeated the portal to the next floor is open to ALL players, meaning it benefits all players, not only the frontliners can go to the next floor.

Kayaba also mentions this on episode 14;

And now I have seen someone surpass even my world's laws

Q: If killing a boss mob is required to progress to the next level, then why is it frontline players are on level 70+ when the Army only just cleared level 25?

Q: Does the novel say what happened to the Game Masters? Did the Death Game occur between shifts or were they just all killed in the opening moments?

The Army didn't get large enough to do boss runs till later on i believe. for your second question anyone that was trapped in the game were freed when Kirito killed Kayaba and ended the game

That doesn't matter though, the front line cleared up to 75. Clearing means taking out the boses. To get to the next level you need to clear the level. If the Army was still working on clearing level 25 then how was the front so far ahead?

I asked what happened to the GM's at the outset, not the end.

I'll answer this from the top of my head for now because I'm a bit busy at the moment;

Floor 25 incident refers to the time when The Army incurred heavy losses, it was never implied that Floor 25 was the only floor they cleared.

There wasn't any GM's during SAO release, except for Kayaba of course. Episode 1 shows this when Klein tries to contact a GM but there was no response.

I know this question is more about mechanics then anything... but could individuals use long ranged weaponry while using a one handed sword. I know dual wielding was only given to Kirito but I thought I read somewhere he used a throwing needle while having his sword equiped.... :S

P.S. more for R.P purposes and idle curiosity. :p

Whoops, didn't notice this thread until just now lol.

If you are referring to Episode 8 where he used the Throwing Knives skill to catch Ragout Rabbit, he had his sword on his back so no you can't use it as an off-hand weapon like you can with a shield.

I agree I never noticed this lol the light novel also never implied anyone but Kirito who dual-wielded. Everyone can Dual Wield weapons but the Sword Skills for Dual Wielding are the unique skill that only Kirito has. Either that or this is an actual plothole from A-1

To be fair, axes are different from Swords... Maybe that guy had the Unique Skill Dual Wield Axes?
