I obtained both seasons of Clannad in June and watched the first 10 episodes or so and I hated it. Finally decided to watch it since people said it was so good, the 2nd season all of a sudden hit me in the face like a brick I never cried like that when part of my toe got ripped off or even at a funeral. Like 9 episodes in a row I was balling my freaking eyes out and had a headache from crying nonstop and now I am super sensitive to stuff now and I hate it so much.

Clannad is definitely the best anime or rather series in general that I've ever seen in my entire life.

Did you guys run into the same problem..

Haha you're not alone my friend same exact thing happened to me, except i felt kinda depressed for like a week afterwards lol. same thing happened after watching School Days for the first time just replace crying with anger and depression oh and it included an extra feeling of dirtiness I've never felt before . So i recommend you stay away from that one.

Clannad is awesome. Loved it from Episode 1 to the very end. KEY is very good at making touching stories that make grownups bawl their eyes out. I will forever be a KEY fanboy.

There is no anime that can make me cry. I haven't even finished the first season of Clannad and I still never cried.

Every tearjerker anime I've seen only learns that when you step in the ring with Stone Cold, you're gonna get your ass whipped! WHAT? They're gonna get their ass whipped. WHAT?

They talk about their dango, talk about starfish...Austin 3:16 says I just whipped Clannad's ass!

If you also enjoyed Clannad, gimme a hell yeah!

People tend to not like clannad but love after story i think because clannad is not focused on anything in particular up til much later in the series. I mean, you can pretty much peg him with any of the female leads at any point and still have a complete story.

I like the story once things settle down in terms of relationships. Then you start getting to some better emotional development.

After story takes it a step further and really delves into the depth of the human psyche imo. Although some things don't quite seem right to me, I think that the author put a lot of his own soul into it, and I can understand and appreciate it as such. Watching the series, to me, feels a lot like watching a person's own conflicted mind trying to make sense of the world. They can't put it in words alone, so they make an illustration to explain it.

Omigosh same! I first started watching it when I was around 14 so I don't think I was really "mature" enough to appreciate it at first. I watched the first 10 episodes, and was totally bored. (and then dropped it) I then waited until I was 16 and re-watched it, and everything about it was totally awesome. It was soooo sad...

It's a misinterpretation of the Gaelic word for "Family."

I think one of the creators was a fan of the Irish musical group "Clannad" and incorrectly assumed that it meant family. When in actuality it was a shortened version of "Clann As Dobhar," which means "The Family from Dore."

Clannad exists just to set the tone for After Story. The first series itself is pretty average.

Of course, the biggest criticism of AS is the

Sad story but it was worth watching. I got it on blue ray. It looked so much better and they did a fantastic job for the english version. Hats off to the makers. ^^

Stuck with it the first time I watched it and loved it. After story is boss but I quite enjoy that slice of life kinda style as well as long as it isn't too silly/childish so I enjoyed it from the start.

Coming from a 25 year old male I never have been a fan of these kinds of anime genre, but I thought hey everyone says it's good why not give it a try.

Watched Clannad and thought it was an average anime, but yes I agree with ciddypoo when he says Clannad exists only for After Story. Because After Story in my opinion is really where the story gets good. A story about second chances in life and how sometimes life can just be unfair and we gotta live on with the hands were are dealt. Yes I really enjoyed this part very much.

For the first time in any Anime I have ever seen I actually cried my eyes out. But I cried for different reasons than most people. I am a single father myself and when it comes to that one scene with father and daughter (And you know which one I'm talking about) it hit so close to home I just lost it. I had to pause it and just take a breather.

So I guess to answer your question yes I really like this series. After Story being the superior one of course. BTW Fuko sucks!

I swear you are the only person on the internet that knows this. I've asked this before and looked it up but found nothing. Thank you!

Edit: I liked the Fuko Arc too! That was he ony arc in the first season to make me shed a tear. So nice.
