Hooray, this is an announcement I really hoped for! Can't go wrong with a new Studio Bones series. CR has a lot more announcements to make so I'm hoping for Kamisama Hajimemashita and Psycho-Pass to be added to the roster too. (And Haitai Nanafa! come on CR! You're sure to get the Natsume fans with that one!)

Do you think licensing anime is like picking out fruit at a supermarket? That it labeled with a set price and you just pick what you want?

It doesn't work that way. Some companies are simply resistant to licensing for simulcast, others ask too much or put unreasonable conditions on the product. Each anime is governed by a production committee composed of different companies, so even if the company responsible for international licensing is one CR has dealt with before, that doesn't mean one of the others can't object to the deal.

Given the popularity of the series in Japan, Smile Precure (just as with the previous Precure series) would likely be expensive to license, but not popular enough in the countries CR could license it for to cover the cost. It would also mean dealing with Toei, which while not totally opposed to simulcasts is not known for being gung-ho about them, either.

As to licensing "licensing shitty ones that no-one cares to watch", apparently you haven't taken time to read the other messages in any of the announcement threads.




As unlike My Little Monster, no mention was made of this being available a week later for free members, a bit of clarification might be in order. Was that simply an omission, or is this a premium-only series?

Yup, that's the familiar "English Speaking Countries" group: US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In other words, the two (mostly) English speaking countries that make up R1, the three (officially) English Speaking Countries inside of R2, and the two biggest English Speaking Countries inside of R4.

A year and a half ago, all the sublicenses were the dreaded NAO: North America Only, so in that sense its an improvement, but its still caught up in the 90's and the language boundaries for dubs for broadcast.

Bah, unfortunately I won't be able to watch Blast of Tempest. It looks very interesting. Gladly CR will announce more titles and probably I'm gonna be luckier next time (as well as the ones who were also left out).
Gladly I already have some new animes to watch from the Fall lineup, looking foward to My Little Monster and From the New World specially. Hope we have a good fall season =D
