I really, really hope there is a 2nd season.

I watched this and Sukitte Iinayo around the same time and they're similar (like Kimi ni Todoke), lonely girl falls in love with boy, etc etc. But I enjoyed this one SO MUCH, it was my favorite of the 3. I felt like the protagonist was more fleshed out; in Sukitte Iinayo I kept wondering what was so interesting about Mei, she had no personality.

I want to see more Haru & Shizuku.

The manga is probably a better impression of both though I love both anime as well. Things are super great for both now, Sukitte chapters 39-41 are super awesome and 39-45 are super tense in Tonari. Tonari was adapted much more slowly so there is a lot more left to animate compared to Sukitte but both have lots left; if sales had been better, second seasons were possible but... sales were not good, better for Tonari but still not great.

Mei was interesting in that she was the only girl not falling all over herself for Yamato... so she got Yamato. And she was strong, not going along with all the fake friends and creepy guys and backstabbing girls. Mei is Mei.

But Shizuku is great too! It is too bad the anime didn't get that far for while I love the show, her character progression was cut short.

The guys are very different, as are the girls. Both are shoujo manga from Dessert magazine but they are really very different beyond that, aside from the rabbits...

I just meant similar in terms of a story framework. There are similar themes, but overall, they're different from one another absolutely. I really enjoy shoujo/slice of life so I eat it all up when I find it. I think Sukitte captured something special about a first love, I can't put my finger on it, but there's something definitely unique about how it was able to convey that naivete. Whereas Tonari is enjoyable in a different way; I think the relationships in both series are very different, absolutely. I think I just connected with Shizuku more than Mei, but for me personally, Tonari edges out Sukitte only slightly.

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Sukitte, I just thought Shizuku was a more fleshed out character. I was really hoping for a s2 for both series but I know the sales were crap which is unfortunate. I thought about reading the manga, which I will probably do now that there will be no s2. There is a lot I am missing, I'm sure, I'd like to fill in the gaps and see the rest of Mei and Shizuku's stories play out.

Re-watching this series for the 4th time... just love it so much

I've pre-ordered the first 4 volumes of the manga on Amazon already -- however I can't help but wonder why the anime series isn't getting a blu-ray release?

I bought the Japanese import Blurays and they are absolutely Gorgeous! I need to rewatch them again.

And volume 13 of the manga came out last month and it is amazing, the final volume is so SO good! OMG!

And a new series is coming, TnK R with Mizutani Bengoshi, Mitty becomes a lawyer! Can't wait!

It's a fun series, although I'd be worried if my sister dated anybody like Haru.

As long as I don't think about it too hard though it's really enjoyable.

The main character of Tonari no Kaibutsu kun, Shizuku Mizutani becomes a lawyer in a follow-on / spinoff manga series Tonari no Kaibutsu Kun R by mangaka Robico. She has a law office... I don't think that's a spoiler for the main series so I mentioned it here. Looks like a bit of a time skip, a few years at least so she is old enough to have a law office.

That makes perfect sense. I must've been really out of it last night.

It's interesting that they're taking a high school manga that far, I hope it does well.

Do the import Blurays have English subs? (I know that is a thing some companies are doing now)

I am looking forward to the spinoff -- I am somewhat surprised it features Mitty, I would have assumed focus on a secondary character rather than a simple time-skip (more than the ones already done at the end of the previous series).

Sadly they don't have English subs but you should buy them. As of right now no company has the show licensed for dvd or blu-ray release, in our region. The one you would expect would be Sentai or maybe Nis but Nis would be very strange.

What a shame.

I can't believe nobody wants to license this awesome show...

Unfortunately I failed to read the fine print of the TnK R 'announcement' ... it was a joke, says it is a fictional announcement... I guess Robico really is moving on to other things so volume 13, chapter 52 really was the end Sorry for creating false rumors... though if Robico reads them and goes for a change of heart I'd be happy to be the cause of that. Still haven't seen any news from them on what they are doing next.

And yes, it is kind of odd that Sentai got Say I Love You but not My Little Monster. Same manga publisher but different production companies I guess.
