I had a pretty good giggle going through this thread and noting how many of the titles are sitting on my bookshelf right now. Cromartie, Burst Angel, X, Tokyo Babylon, Maze, Now and then/Here and there...

To the OP, "Girl from Phantasia" was great too; sadly, it is not found on my bookshelf.

Rarest I'm going to give to something I also don't have a copy of, called "Mama is a 4th grader". You can find the manga version online; it's mercilessly cute.

Looking up at my collection though, I will also offer "Angel Cop", "Demon Hunter Yohko", "Dai-Guard", "Sorceror Hunters", "Cats Eye" and "The Daichis". (Man, that was a weird mix to lump into one sentence.)

I'm hoping that some other titles I also see, such as "Magic Knight Rayearth", "The Slayers" and "Urusei Yatsura" don't qualify for mention. I wouldn't expect it, except for how recent and (to me) well-known some of the titles I've seen here are.

honestly i don't think this one is overlooked by many, most likely only by the pure shonen crowd. its pretty popular.

um elemental hunters, though i don't think alot of people will enjoy it as much unless ur childish to the core.

amatsuki, loved it, but it got cancelled.

I think probably the least-known anime I've seen is Seto no Hanayome (My Bride is a Mermaid). It's hilarious! xD

I would say "X" would have to be the most obscure anime I've ever seen at that it was just the movie version and that was way back in '97-'98 maybe? It's so obscure, having forgot its name, trying to figure it out on what a could remember from the basic plot of it proved almost useless.

Oh? Well seeing as "Needless" Wild Arms" and "Burst Angel" were all listed (all of with have shown up on netflix) and I've seen them all
I saw no fault in listing one I loved that no one I have met at Dragoncon nor AWA, has heard of. If YOU have heard of them.... good for you, here's a cookie . As It stands this is a form for people to post their thoughts on (This post was my first post seeing as I have just opened my crunchyroll account) If my thoughts, likes or dislikes differ from yours, well we are two different people now aren't we?

Not every one (and no you don't count as every one) has heard of "Spice and Wolf" and no one I know (other then myself) has seen it.
So maybe some one may see my thread and decide to look in to the show. If you still disagree with what I have to say, please disregard my postings.

No one on here wants to be mistreated because of there views. In the future please remember that and play nice.

Thank you,
Pandachan

I was unaware Wild Arms was ever on Netflix. I guess you learn something every day.

On the series side, Saint Tail, Michiko to Hatchin, Kemono no Souja Erin, Kamikaze Kaito Jeanne, Fancy Lala, Earth Maiden Arjuna, Asatte no Houkou, Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro, and last but not least, Ojamajo Doremi. 4-Kids did the same thing to Doremi as they did with One Piece when they released it state side (they completely butchered it) but the original Japanese version is very good. I'm currently on the 4th season.

On the movie side, Armitage III.

Ushio and Toro I think was the name. About a kid who's the descendant of a hero that sealed a demon with his spear. The kid gets talked into freeing the demon to save himself and the demon tries to kill him so he can't be sealed again. Kid transforms into hero due to spear and whups demon. Rest of series the demon rides around on his head saying if he parts from the spear for a second he'll kill him. It's pretty funny to see since Toro is huge but still perched on the kids head. It's the typical anti-hero story with the demon but it was great to me. It was made mid 90's I think. One of the first non popular animes I watched and it pretty much got me hooked.

Rare? I don't know what's exactly rare but very good and unknown to most anime fans I'd pick Mirai Shounen: Conan (Miyazaki directed several episodes) it's a little slow but it has a nice story.

Twelve Kingdoms is one of my favorites, I wouldn't consider it all that unknown.

Riding Bean was pretty awesome and had some pretty amazing driving scenes for the time. (it's in the same world as Gunsmith Cats too!)

maybe the most obscure anime that I've seen are The Enemy is the Pirates, Elf Princess Rane or Hyper Police

This one... Haibane Renmei. Funimation re-released a boxset for it a few weeks ago I believe, too. Totally worth it.
It might start off a tad slow, but it picks up very quickly. It's from the guys behind Serial Experiments Lain and Texhnolyze (also two great shows if you need some persuasion) so you can count on it feeling unique and original even to this day. I wouldn't say it's unknown per se, but it's viewer base was a lot smaller than it should have been.

One other anime that comes to mind that I thought was overlooked:

Uchuu no Stellvia. Almost 10 years old now, I can't believe how time flies...
It totally caught me by surprise back then, too. I seriously thought it was going to be another cookie-cutter space anime, but turn out it had great characters (and a good romance), an engaging story, a solid OST, and very cool-looking art.

Look 'em up!!
