Have anyone heard of Tekno-man?

Tekkaman Blade? Yeah, I have the first subbed dvd set. I need to pick up the others.

Seriously though, Tatsunoko anime never get enough love.

^ Yeah, I have the subbed sets too. Picked them up on a whim after playing the Tatsunoko vs. Capcom game for the Wii, but I've never gotten around to watching them. If you want the rest, I think RightStuf had them in the Bargain Bin a while back. Still might!

Jing: The king of Bandits

Wow, I totally forgot about Jing: King of Bandits. I thought the original series was really great, but the OVA didn't really live up to my expectations. Still worth watching in any case. "Gimme a Kir Royale!"

I really enjoyed Blue Sub 6 except it was shown on Toonami here in the UK.

Ones that don't get mentioned very often:
Spriggan
Tokyo Revelation

Looking at the lists, most of you guys really mixed up on what really counts as rarest or most obscure anime title. Just because the DVD is out of print, it doesn't count as rare.

I want to say Robot Carnival doesn't count because it is a film, but considering it is more so just 9 shorts compiled under one title, it bears a semblance to an anime series.

If something is out of print its going to be hard to find (ie rare). A bunch of these titles are rare because they haven't been seen in the US since the 90s, or even found in the US at all.

Just a few I own that might be "rare/unknown."

Please Save My Earth. (OAV)
Twin Signal. (OAV)
Green Legend Ran. (Movie)
Battle Angel. (OAV)

I own a lot of older anime, so I'd say that 25% of my collection could be "unknown" to some new watchers but not to older watchers, so I'll leave it at that.

Also, love King of Bandits Jing, and I like how they fleshed out the style in the anime.

Come on, you should know that any title that was licensed in the U.S. is only a fraction of what Japan produced during Bubble era.

My definition of rare is any title or show that has not seen light of the day on both Japan and the U.S. since its initial release. So rare that you cannot find it on any video sites, not just DVDs. Also Japan made anime for educational and public safety purpose. How about old anime made for toddlers and preschool children? Simply put, any anime title that doesn't fall under teen and young adult category. Those types are super rare.

TO-Y

An old late-'80s OVA about the lead singer of a punk band who's offered a pop idol contract that stipulates that he leave his band behind.

Since it was never released in America, only way to watch it is through fansubs.

Maris the Chojo is an OVA that no one I have ever asked has ever even heard about, except for my aunt. That is because she was the one who bought a bootleg VHS from a kiosk while stationed in Germany in the early 90s. She gave me the tape when she moved back to the states.

Maris the Chojo was the first subbed anime I had seen. (Before that, I had only seen what was shown on CN) I was about 10 then IIRC.

Are you talking about things like the episode of Pokemon that caused children all over Japan to have seizures? It was aired only once and never released on VHS or DVD, and is banned in many countries. There are some instances of it being released in an edited form (they edited the scene that caused the seizures) However, the original version has only been aired in Japan on TV IIRC and never made available anywhere else.

However, thanks to modern technology the episode is still available for viewing on the internet if you look hard enough, because some people had recorded it in Japan when it aired.
