I liked the last episode a lot, but am I the only one who thinks the tonal shift from the fall to the winter season was really drastic?

No, I've disliked the change in pace, though it seems to be getting back on track.

I have a weird theory, but I think Aika was actually the princess of Exodus. If you really think about it, its true that the Tree of Genesis would've had a reason to kill her to send Mahiro and Yoshino to save Hakaze. But at the same time, couldn't Aika's death also be the will of Exodus for them to set out as well? Even though they did end up saving Hakaze, they are also going around destroying parts of the tree of genesis, so couldn't that also be the real intention? When you look back, Aika purposely told Yoshino about Tempest when they were dating. If you know Shakespeare, you know he has hundreds of plays about Tragedies, so why did she pick that one to say at the time? At this point I'm not even sure if Aika is really dead or not either. If it really was the will of Exodus for them to start this journey in the first place, would it not either kill Aika or make her death appear real? We know it could possibly be in the realm of logical due to Hakaze being transported into the future (Nothing seems really that illogical as to fake someones death after that). If you keep up with the manga, you'll also know some other parts that kind of go along with this theory. Even in the Anime, you can tell that Aika's death really held a key importance in all of this, from either the Genesis side or the Exodus side.

Love it!

I don't see how they can fit everything into the few episodes remaining. I love the way the manga is wrapping up and it'd be great if they animated it.

So, with the manga ending in April how will it affect the last number of episodes? I've not read the manga so I don't know how close the anime is to catching up with the manga.

judging from the conversation that's going on in that news post, there's still a few volumes of material that the anime hasn't caught up to yet, so I doubt it'd have a whole lot of an effect. I'm just hoping that they won't cut a ton of stuff out in order to wrap up the anime in the few remaining episodes.

Yea, I'm hoping they won't cut out a lot, too. Reading the news link from CR left you guessing on what might happen.

I'm up to episode 17 now. I was really getting into it by episode 12, but then I felt like the show started to fall apart.

It's weird, but I think that this would have been better as a 13 episode anime. All of those first episodes were this epic build up towards something that I felt would end up being a really intriguing twist. But now the show is just dragging along and no longer holds my interest nearly as much.

I hope it can get epic again soon, or I might end up dropping it.

The second cour does seem to have a completely different personality. At first I didn't like it but now I'm really enjoying the romance, the silly Hakaze stuff even though it feels like a completely different show now.

Maybe I'm wrong about this but the way things have gone after episode 12 don't seem to be THAT out of place. Think about it, both Yoshino and Mahiro almost died from the event in episode 12. Mahiro was put asleep for a month and Hakaze took care of Yoshino. After how illogical that event was for Hakaze and Samon to witness, time was needed to step back and reassess the next move. I think it's great to see a focus on Hakaze and Yoshino because the one common thread throughout the whole series with Yoshino was a person whom while nice was hiding a year worth of pain (and a year worth of hiding that his g/f was Aika from everyone; albeit, he told that woman who has joined with the Kusaribe clan) and with him now able to release that pain because of Hakaze it may cause Yoshino to re-think things (like needing to tell Mahiro the truth about Aika at the end of episode 17). Let us not forget we still don't know if the Tree of Genesis acts for the will of Hakaze or for the will of its own survival which in turn means using Hakaze and hurting the people around her. Also, this time may show Yoshino there are more important things other than just trying to prevent Aika's death from being used as a tragedy. Lets keep in mind there are two different themes to this story: Mahiro's desire to get revenge whatever the cost (remember he was willing to drop Hakaze like a bad habit and leave her on the island) & Yoshino's desire to have this tragedy end in happiness (he was the only one willing to fight to bring Hakaze back even though it may seem it was strictly for Aika's death not being used as a tragedy. But, in regards to that when Hakaze says to Yoshino that he only brought her back for Aika's sake he questioned that comment as if he brought her back not just for Aika's sake but also because he didn't want her to be left on the island because that's the kind of person he is).
