So two things could be the result of the skull. Aki (the sister) was randomly killed because she was the same height weight and looks of Hakaze for the purpose of fooling the clan members. Or...
Hakaze is dead and her ghost is bound on the island and she doesnt know it yet.
Also the explanation of the bobbypins in his hair makes them seem less silly and metrosexual now.
I so agree about the bobbypins! That is such an awesome reason for a totally lovesick young lad to put his hair up in bobbypins!

It was Hakaze's skull and body kept in the barrel, but the Hakaze of the present. The Hakaze that the guys are communicating with is in the past, over three months in the past.

I have a hunch those actually ARE her bones, and despite her insistence that there is no way to bring back the dead, she has figured some way around it, at least for herself...
In any event, the story took a serious turn to the AWESOME with that twist!
