Having read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?, I find it to be a very interesting choice of allusion; the society of DADoES is judged to be human by their empathetic response to the tests run by Android hunters. Similarly, Psycho-Pass does forms of "testing" (more like monitoring actually) to prevent possible crime. That's not where the similarities actually lie though; the core of both stories is that humanity has somewhat lost a sense of their humanity. As seen with Rick's wife in DADoES, she relies heavily on the television broadcasts to display her emotions. Psycho-Pass's citizens lack empathetic responses (episode 14) and have no sense of danger.
It's been a while since I read DADoES so my comparisons may be off; but the thematic storytelling are quite similar. DADoES is a good read if you want to question what it means to be human. |

Actually, you've hit on one of the common themes running through much of PKD's work: lost humanity. What is humanity when we are convicted of crimes before we commit them? When we can implant any memories we want? When androids have emotions? .... |

Holy crap. This past episode was so interesting.
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Brought back to the scene where the anime began AND Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide The chief was a robot? The truth is a lot more frightening than I thought it would be. Didn't expect that one. |

I'm going to adjust my comparison of this anime to from a single movie to two.
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide after today's episode it went from Minority Report to Minority Report and Terminator, and not talking about the guns. Unfair system to curb criminals before they commit a crime, and the self same system is something that should not have been seen by people or she, or should I say it wouldn't have taken out a blameless enforcer. |

But todays was so bad ass and awesome that I'll have to go back and look. That ending especially had me WTF'ing... Played back the final 2 min and freeze framed at different parts to see as much as I could of what the Sibyl System actually was.... Needless to say I still have no clue. Best I could tell was a big overhead highway rofl. |

Click to show or hide she's a cyborg. And I think, like the original Minority Report, the Sybil system is using people networked into a computer. This episode was all kinds of awesome! A week is too long to wait for the next ep. |

Watch 0:45-2:45 of episode 1. So we didn't need to watch the rest of the episodes in between LOL Greek Drama... Great episode. In the home stretch now... Episode 1... Helicopter bit reminded me a bit of old Golgo 13 now that I think of it too. |

Stay away from the forums, who am I kidding???

Awesome episode! I can't decide if I want it over with already, or to have it stretched out infinitely!
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide On a personal note, way too many disappointing things going on in one episode. From Tsunemori not killing Makishima (which is so wrong, as the robot lady wants him specifically ALIVE just like the other dude...something's up with that for sure..) and poor cutie Enforcer getting blown apart! |

That episode made the series go to a whole new level.I just started praying for the series to end in a way so a movie sequel or 2nd season are possible. This has to be a hit in Japan!

Did not think of what you mentioned though. Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide Unfortunately, Minority Report is a movie Iʻve never seen before. I kinda want to see it now though. Anyway, some thoughts I had regarding the chief. 1. The chief was once a human that was replaced by a robot or something at some point. 2. The chief was always a robot and at some point, robots had made their way into society, slowly reforming it into a shape that was "ideal." I thought the chief was a robot or something because when she pointed the dominator at Kagari at the end, this guy, ( http://myanimelist.net/character/69055/Shuusei_Kagari ) it originally was on stun mode, but it was forcibly overwritten and made to go to that execution mode. Btw, I repeatedly mentioned "the chief" because I had no idea what her name was. Haha. Apparently itʻs Kasei though. http://myanimelist.net/character/77753/Jousei_Kasei |

Regarding the "chief" and Sybil System core:
Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide It would be no surprise if the chief was revealed to be a cyborg as we already had an arc with a criminal who substituted his human body with a mechanical shell (robotic body). What I found astonishing was how the chief managed to override the Dominator; she changed it from Lethal Paralyzer mode to Eliminator mode which makes me believe she may be a full robot. About the Sybil System, I'm curious as to what the core of it actually is; the Korean hacker said revealing it to the society would shake its core so it must be something shocking. While robots ruling over a city would be shocking, I find that it may be very generic to have machines calculate what is needed to establish a working government. Also, machines ruling over society just doesn't seem to match the themes of Psycho-Pass. I think the best possible answer would probably be that humans are stored inside the Sybil System's core -- we are shown that human brains can be placed in robotic bodies so it's not implausible. There isn't very much to base this theory off though so it's just speculation with little proof. |
