Magi: the Labyrinth of Magic Discussions

Huh... I just watched the first two eps out of sheer boredom and actually like it. It's a lot more interesting than previews and screens give it credit for.

I'm not regretting it either.. and Aniplex not censoring the nipples on the female djinn earns my respect. I thought for sure they would use some stupid light beam or tiny Aladdin icons to cover them up but nope. Full-on pierced nipples! lol
I also like how they dont pull punches with killing scenes. The scene doesnt get obscured with a cloud of smoke, or it doesnt blink away for a second and then you see the aftermath... or something equally stupid because "Omg its violence! We cant have that!" Currently the show is getting 6 out of 5 stars in my estimation. |

I'm surprised that this show's discussion thread only has 5 pages right now. Do people really not care to talk about this show?
Anyway, I'm just glad that the show is no longer in the Balbadd arc. I liked it in the manga, but it felt so long and drawn out in the anime. |

It's time to move on.

Yeah so hate the newest episode, the deviated way to far from the manga. I don't know why anime studios feel the need to change the story, the manga is popular for a reason...because the story is good. Only 1 episode left and I have absolutely no desire to watch it anymore.

I meant to be good, but there were too many other options

Why does everything have to be word for word adapted from manga? You know what didn't do that but still turned out good.
The first FMA. I like how the recent episodes have played out regardless of it not being in the manga at all. |

Whether you like the anime adaptation or hate it, you can't deny the fact that the manga became so popular thanks to the anime. The perfect example is the first volume. It sold about 250k copies before they announced the anime, and after the announcement the first volume sold over 500k copies. That's more than double the sales before the anime aired. Magi wasn't even able to hit the 1 million mark sales in 2011, but in 2012 it sold about 3.5 million copies. |

So I'm hearing about a season 2. If true I'm pretty happy about it, I like the setting and characters... and more Morgiana is never a bad thing IMO

Meh, Magi isn't really working for me. It just bothers me how they are ripping off characters and then ignoring who those characters are supposed to be. I would have no problem with this series if they had used original names. I may have even liked it.
Sinbad is a sailor Aladdin is not a mage Ali Baba was the son of a merchant, not a prince Kassim is the son of the same merchant, not an adoptive brother to Ali Baba; and Morgiana was originally a slave in Kassim's household. Just to name a few discrepancies. Nothing about the anime is so great that I can easily ignore the rip-off aspect. Also, I cringe every time they say "Shintobato." His name is Sinbad, ffs. Btw, I'm not the actual owner of this account, but his husband. The real BeastMTL loves this series. |

No way I think its horrible, all that character growth that Alibaba went through, he finally stopped being a whiny little brat, and they just dismiss it all in 1 episode. They successfully turn him back into the weak willed person he was at the beginning of the show. I have read the manga prior to watching this series and it was plenty popular then. My husband who doesn't read manga even hates how the series is going, he said he is tired of watching Alibaba fail all the time and that he became a whiny brat again. My husband who hates reading manga actually stopped watching Magi cause he said its crap now and is reading the manga. |

However I prefer seeing massive failures in anime, nothing bores me more than a bunch of episodes of build up of a characters will and strength which leads to the obvious foregone conclusion of "I have the power of good on my side and now I win!" Yeah... that shit is boring and trite. Watching a character fall from grace because the world doesn't fall into line just because hes the protagonist is far more entertaining and interesting to watch. |
