Is sword art online following the manga? I'm wondering if its a short tv adaptation that doesnt really follow the storyline and ends? Is it like naruto where it follows the storyline? Also please no spoilers as to anything after the current episode on crunchyroll, thanks.

as of right now the anime is going to finish the chapter of the light novel and they are almost there.
the manga is an adaptation in which it isn't very far, so i'd say about 2-4 eps left till they move on from the light novel.
as per if they will follow the light novel i'd say they will, but who knows the rest of time won't be enough time for "closure" or start a new arc.
they might make original ending

from what i heard the anime will animate volume 1-4 of the Light Novels and as of this writing their are 10 volumes of the Light Novels, and i bet their will be more seasons for Sword Art Online since they can animate volume 5-10 of the Light Novels, and the Light Novel is still ongoing but i heard some rumors that it will end soon
P.S.
Light Novels - a lot of text like so much to read and few picture drawings
Manga - a balance between picture drawings and text to read

Vol. 10 of the SAO LN got released around the time the SAO anime started.
Vol. 10 was pretty much new material to the SAO series, as the events covered in that were pretty much skipped in the original web novel version.
Regarding what's left of the web novel...publishing what's left could end around vol. 14 - 16 for a LN series.
Of course that is assuming Kawahara doesn't feel like adding in more things, or drastically changing the story (seems unlikely on this point).
SAO LN should continue for another 2-3 years before publishing the last of the original web novel material...

The Anime will continue from volume 3 of the Light novels. Don't worry, we are currently on volume 10 (with a lot more material in his web-novel version of the Alicization arc).

Actually the anime is 25 episodes it will almost certainly start the second arc in the next couple episodes the title of episode 16 gives it away... Spoiler Alert! Click to show or hide episode 14 is the end of SAO's arc 16 titled The Country Of Fairies is the beginning of ALO
their is no word past the current 25 episodes whether more will be ordered though it seems likely as originally only 17 episodes where ordered (extensions are always a good sign) so i say it's pretty likely that SAO will get a second series but i think ALO will probably end before the end of series 1...

I just watch the latest episode, so if you haven't SPOILER, and I have never been so angry and so joyful in my life. I'm still pretty new to anime, and enjoy most. So when Kirito gets stab and is force to watch his love practically get raped, I felt as though I was in Kiritos exact shoes, but was so relieved that he was saved! (Thank the writers) He then Tortures that asshole (excuse my French) I felt such pleasure and glad that kirito killed him in a way, some people could argue that it was overboard. Why I write this, I honestly don't know maybe I'm just trying to find someone to agree with me about this. But for SAO I have never felt so attached to an anime like this. The difference between life movies and anime is that in Films these people act the roles that are given, but in anime they are specifically created for their role in a manga or manga they exists to live their role. It might sound weird, but it's how I feel.

The anime ends like halfway through how far the manga is.

Light novel, not manga. The manga is like 10 chapters and only covers SAO and not ALfheim.
