Not quite the same but coincidentally the other Dessert magazine shojo serial, My Little Monster (Tonari no Kaibutsukun) is also great and is showing on Crunchyroll as a simulcast.

In the Crunchyroll catalog, have you seen Kimi ni Todoke? Toradora is another great romance series in the Crunchyroll catalog.

Not sure how many can be viewed from Yorkshire however.

Latest episode was great, so emotional as always. This one was done quite differently from the manga.

I quite like the fact that they're trying to make the anime it's own and slightly different. It's just a shame as I'm a non Japanese reader, they've only translated up to chapter 24. It's definitely become one of my favourites and it would be nice to read the rest.

I am glad it is not exactly the same. That would be boring! I prefer some parts in the anime for sure. It is a second chance so they can explain things better sometimes in the adaptation.

I am not sure why the scanlators are so slow with this one. Others are much faster.

Shojo manga is very easy to read at least. Since it is aimed at 10-18 year olds it has furigana on every kanji so you don't even need a kanji dictionary!

You shouldn't rush people who are posting free translated scans of a product. Not saying you are, it's just that they probably aren't getting paid to do it considering it's free and that they take the time to even translate and upload it can take time in itself not to mention time out of their own schedules. I'd rather have a cleaner and more accurate translation than a twenty-minute slapped together clump of words, won't you? Boy, I used a lot of the word time and variations of it in there didn't I? That's one thing I've always had trouble with, making sure to use the right forms of it when appropriate. People always use the wrong form of it, I see it constantly and frankly I want to avoid doing that myself; "The weather outside is nice, it's not cloudy at all!" or "The correlation between a bun and a hotdog is that you can put them together. The only problem is that I can't find the right combination of hotdog and bun types to have the ultimate hotdog-bun combo! The buns I find are all hard and coarse, not soft and fluffy like I want. A bun is supposed to be made out of dough, not leather. It's extremely frustrating!". Wait, that didn't really prove my point since they're both correct. The difference between Its and it's, that is. Now I'm rambling and thinking to much into it....

I am reading the actual Japanese books (real paper, purchased from amazon.co.jp) so I don't care how long the free scanlators take or if they continue at all as I don't read the scanlations of anything. I don't download raws of manga or anime either or watch fansubs. I love supporting the mangaka by buying their books and discs. I even buy their extra .5 issues, fanbooks, anthologies, whatever I can buy I buy!

I hate reading translations anyways, so I learned Japanese. I could always tell I was missing something with even professional translations. Some things just can't be translated.

Frankly I am surprised at the time and effort that free fansubbers and scanlators put in. Doesn't make what they do any more legal but I am impressed at their dedication and organizational skills. Funny thing is if you hotlink from mangafox they say you are stealing their bandwidth. Takes a thief to know one I guess!

You want fun with contractions, try them in Japanese!

Ah, sorry for the misunderstanding then. Yeah, some things just can't be translated and that goes with any language. It is kind of funny they say you're stealing their bandwidth when they illegally upload scans themselves so their point is moot. Then again, as you said they do have dedication and organization so I can see why they'd be like that, plus it is their site after all. The good thing about Mangafox though is that once a series has been licensed they stop putting said manga on their site. By the way, how long did it take you to learn Japanese if I may ask and would you say it's any different from, say, Spanish? Well, of course it's different, but I mean as in terms of difficulty. Oh and don't get me started on contractions and conjugation, I have enough of that to deal with with studying French!

I know, too short to finish the story which is ongoing. I hope it is popular enough to make a second season.

Yeah, I'll be sad when it's done. Since there are 9 volumes out and the manga is still ongoing, there's always the possibility of a second season. I sure hope so.

There are nine volumes out now and will be ten with 40 chapters by January of Sukitte ii na yo manga. First season of anime is just 13 episodes.

By comparison, Kimi ni Todoke got a two cour 25 episode first season, a one cour 12 episode second season and 3 OVAs and it is ongoing with 17 volumes of manga released so far.

So I would say that Sukitte certainly deserves another season, Kimi ni Todoke too!

Does anyone know how popular the series has been so far in Japan? Will that not affect whether there's a second series?

Depends if the point is or was to sell discs, the manga or Dessert magazine. TV ratings are just a small part of the picture. That said, it hasn't done spectacularly well in TV or disc sales, good as you might hope but not surprisingly well.

Mei's kinda cute and a believable character. The anime does remind you of Kimi ni todoke. The anime has a lot of potential going on.
