Dormitories

What do you think of dormitories? Are they safe? How does it feel like living there?

I want to experience living in a girl dormitory..
Unfortunately, my parents don't have budget for me to live in one..
My house is far away from school but the're no problem with transportation..

I've always felt safe living in the dorms. It can be a lot of fun with hall events and it's a great way to meet people who aren't in your classes or clubs. It can also suck when people are inconsiderate and leave a mess or slam doors at 2:00 am. Overall, I think it's a good experience to live in the dorms for at least a year.

Never lived in dorms but I have quite a friends who have. They seem decent, overpriced in my opinion but being able to drag yourself out of bed 5 minutes before class and show up looking like you just woke up looks nice. You can also meet different people and, from my experience, you'll either be best friends with your roommate or hate their guts. On the downside, aside from the cost, you've got to deal with people who are loud until 3 AM and idiots making the floor smell like weed/alcohol/whatever, and sharing a bathroom with 1-3 other women does not sound appealing at all.

I used to. It was interesting and I recommend that everyone do it once, but not twice. It's just for the experience.

VERY overpriced, but the fact that there are so many people there makes it occasionally fun. There's a festive, lively atmosphere. Sometimes too lively. I prefer the apartment I have now but I don't regret living in a dorm.

Lived in a dorm for all my 3 years of undergrad; a single though, so I can't really talk about what it's like have a roommate. I've heard with that YMMV though (depending on the kind of person you end up with).

Nevertheless, I gotta say it's pretty nice to just roll out of bed and go to class. It's also nice to be able to walk outside and talk to random people about whatever, I kinda miss that. Last time I got to do that in the real world was about 2 weeks ago when this young Finnish girl just came up to me to pass time with a conversation outside my apartment because she was bored, on the street nonetheless. The conversation made me feel pretty nostalgic and you've got to be really daring to do that in the real world honestly.

Just warning you though, the bathrooms can get disgusting.

Is living in a dorm more expensive than living in an apartment? or just the same price?

Depends, my single cost like 3000 for a semester (roughly 4 months) with the base cost for a meal plan covered as well as all utilities (basic cable with a couple of HD channels, pretty fast internet with a 10GB cap/week and someone to clean the bathrooms and halls every other day). That's roughly equivalent to the rent of a nice studio apartment where I went to school, without utilities.

I say it's generally a good deal when you put location in mind, it is REALLY nice to just roll out of bed and go to class and also not have to cook.

My apartment about a 5 minute drive from campus is like 30% cheaper than the dorm. School-owned housing really rips you off from what I've seen.

Wow I feel like I changed my mind...
I don't wanna live to disgusting bathrooms because I'm used to clean my bathroom every week..
I guess the fun part is you get to socialize with many people..
Wait, can I at least have drinking and/or smoking sessions with my dorm mates? is that allowed? cause I can't live a day without doing either of those two..

I see what they did there
They're taking advantage of the students..

Maybe it all depends in the offer.. Is that dorm you were living inside the school?
