Honestly, I didnt get that much emotion from this one really, could be that I trea this as just a silly enjoyable anime rather than anything serious though. Also feels alot like they're prepping for a S2 with having another episode after this...

Just seen episode 23, in my opinion i think it should have been the final episode, i have no idea what they will do with the actual final episode, but i do believe that they should do a second season

Yeah, not all that emotional for me either (that was last episode). This one just seemed overly sentimental with a ra! ra! we are the good-hearted rebels overlay. I've mostly been seeing this show as enjoyable, but not all that silly, nor all that serious. Anyway, I guess I'm feeling a bit curmudgeonly about this episode--just really did seem disrespectful of Misaki to take all that attention from what's supposed to be an important day for all the graduates and turn it into her own little rally--I would have liked it a lot more if the speech had been more subtle--yes, mentioning her personal experience, but putting it in a context that would be applicable and meaningful for all the graduates, and having the support of the other students come about a bit more organically.

I do wonder about a season 2. It does seem that if they weren't going for that, this episode would have made a good last episode.

I'm also wondering about the actual final episode, because as you say this episode felt like a good final episode. So I expect either the actual final episode will be some lame epiloguish type of thing (thus closure without promise of a second season), or something that is more of a lead-in for a new season.

Its a shame but recently leaving series with intentionally vague endings in the hope of getting a S2 seems to be the cool thing to do.

Strange episode.

I'm hoping for a decent last episode, on past history this type of show hasn't got a second season (*cough* Skip Beat)

Amazing episode 23, cried through almost the whole thing and I knew what was going to happen from reading the novels. Great adaptation, so emotional with the songs and music, original OP. Could be the best episode of anything ever.

As to what they'll do, as already mentioned above there is still a ton left to do if they get another season! We are not yet finished book 6. Books 6, 7, 7.5, 8 and 9 have been written already (and I have them all, reading 9 now) and 10 is planned. Most than enough for at least a one cour and two really since the later novels are longer than the early ones.

Sales probably haven't been good enough which is a shame but... man, we'll always have episode 23... Beautiful!

so overall, I say Pet Girl could have concluded with episode 23 if they wanted
could have ended it right there and I would still think they redeemed the show well enough to make me forget Sorata's anger issues
I guess they're trying to end with a slight open ending of what the future might bring to all of them after the graduation event

I really wish the light novels were all in English. This typically happens - a series finishes, I want to read the novels but none of them are translated to English, or only part of them are (I'm still waiting on the rest of Haruhi to come out).

Translations to English are typically years behind too, so even if they do start releasing them in English it might be like 5 or 6 years before they're all out. Urrrgh.

It'd be great if they released more of the anime, but that would of course be too good to be true, so odds are that episode 24 will wrap things up in anime form and the rest of us peons that can't read Japanese will be left out of the rest of the story.

I agree with this basically as the LN probably has additionally details. Unfortunately so far, it is far behind the anime. Volume 3 concluded translation yesterday but it only covers up to...

It would a very long time for the LN to catch up in translated version. From some of the visuals I've checked out, there seems to be quite a lot of plot coming up.
