So I joined Crunchyroll to take a look at it's service (which is awesome, btw) but also I saw everyone really active here. So I'm going to start posting away soon, but I also wanted to invite anyone on the crunchyroll forums to help out.

I started a website called Nihongo Master, which is an online site to learn Japanese. I started it because last year I travelled to Japan and was really unhappy with my self learning (I tried Rosetta Stone, books, phone apps, blah).

Obviously, I enjoy anime and Japanese culture. So when I came back, I knew I had to study harder but I wanted to make something others could use. Besides, I want to watch anime without the subtitles!

Anyways, I think what was made is pretty cool, and even though we're in private beta, I wanted to give all the crunchyroll users access to it since I'd love to hear your feedback. Anything to help make it easier to learn Japanese would be awesome. Tell me how or why you want to learn Japanese.

To join, use the invite code: crunchyroll or just go to the main registration page at http://www.nihongomaster.com/register/?code=crunchyroll

Anyone want to talk about learning Japanese in this thread, let's discuss!

I'd like to learn Japanese because I believe it is a beautiful, but misunderstood language.
The fast tongues, intonation and general flow of words is really intriguing.
The fact that Japanese grammar is about 100 times easier than that of English...
I'd also like to be able to watch Anime and films without subtitles, but not just that.
I'd love to be able to converse with and learn Japanese culture in Japanese.
I'd enjoy being able to live in Japan comfortably and know my way around.

And of course, I would love to have many good Japanese friends, among many others.

It comes down to this. I love languages. I'd learn every language if I could.

I'm self-taught, only been learning intermittently for about five months or so, on and off.
Memorized Hiragana/Katakana a few years ago. (I find Katakana to be a little trickier).
My biggest tip is familiarize yourself with humble and casual speech, learn the differences.
By far also...because we have computers capable of it...type in Japanese as much as you study.
I've found the typing not only helps me remember things better, but it also helps me visualize Kanji.

Even if you just know a greeting or two, it'll put a smile on a speaker's face to hear it. (I've had this experience).
It shows that you care enough about the language to learn or use even just a little bit.

DeliriumOxide,

Yeah, I totally agree. What I find interesting about Japanese is how unique the speech is when speaking to different social classes. Very much like how the Japanese take pride in their work, the language, I believe, is a reflection of that. Very pretty.

Yeah, I totally agree. When I went to Japan and simply said hello, native speakers would get very excited and happy just to know I took the time to learn a few simple words.
