Feel free to share your favorite VN and what you liked about it. Go ahead and also list all the VN's you've played.
My favorite is Swan Song. It deals with a catastrophic earthquake that turns a town into a wasteland where the main characters have to fight to survive. The VN is about conflict, survival, and how we change/cope to new environments. Other VN's that I've read are as listed. Ever 17 Katawa Shoujo Saya No Uta Wanko to kurasou Ef - a tale of the two Majikoi |

Wow...I have played soooooo many ADVs!! Some quite sleazy
and some with really high production values like Dracu-Riot, Tropical Kiss, Cafe Sourire, Kamikaze Explorer. I'd say my fave is Kamikaze Explorer or Dracu-Riot, but I have to play with a translation program so it takes longer and the translations are reallt hit or miss sometimes!!!But good, high quality visual novels are really awesome especially if u like ecchi |

Loren the Amazon Princess ( This is should be played by everyone! You can actually have the option to have sex scenes and nudity, and of course it isn't like that. Only the romance scenes in the end.)
Cinders ( A great twist on Cinderella where you actually WORK for a happy ending. ) Date Warp ( This screwed with my brain.. ) Magical Diary Horse Hall Academagia ( This isn't really a visual novel, but I love how I get to interact with over 80 students and do their adventures. Never get's old. ) Katawa Shoujo Starry Sky All were pretty good games. But Loren the Amazon Princess was probably one of the best I ever played and still playing it till now. Loren is such a beast in battle. I rarely get to play an RPG/ Action/ Romance type visual novel. It was good. Katawa Shoujo is just amazing. How I describe it? ( Better not because I will start praising it so much..) but I really love the characters and grew to know them. |

Katawa Shoujo blew my mind when I played it. Especially Rin's route.
As someone who spent the better part of 18 months in the hospital undergoing chemotherapy instead of going to high school, I could really relate to the protagonist's feelings of isolation and "otherness". Also, the characters felt truly believable to the kinds of people you would run into at a hospital (or school for the disabled). People who refused to show they were hurting. People who masked their own pain by trying to heal others. People whose minds simply broke under the stress. Playing KS was like reliving that time. It was both truly awe-inspiring to see the reality captured so elegantly (as written by people who by their own admission have never experienced it.) and also crushingly painful. It is a magnum opus, in every sense of the word. I've also played almost everything by Key: CLANNAD, One: Kagetsu Kohya E, Kanon, and I just started Little Busters! Also, Tokimeki Check-In!, Yume Miru Kutsuri, Fate/Stay Night, Time Hollow(ds) and a couple crappy ones. Christine Love's trio are fascinating too. She does OELVN's. I think "don't take it personally babe, it's just not your story" is the best (and free!), but I also recommend Digital: A Love Story. (The spiritual successor Analogue: A Hate Story is on Steam, but it's... meh.) And if you haven't read Angie Gallant's Let's Play of Hatoful Boyfriend , Check It Out |

My experience with visual novels is really limited, the only ones i've actually played are Fate/ stay night and Katawa Shoujo.
Fate/stay night was kind of up and down (I still think Shirou is a putz and don't find Saber/Rin terribly interesting) but it was cool to find out more about the characters that didn't get much screen time in the anime or movie (Sakura and Rider in particular) and the the Tiger Dojo bits were hilarious. Still wish there was an Illya route though, lol psycho loli romance. I forgot to mention, but it's also great getting to see all the fun ways to get Shirou killed by being a dumbass. Katawa Shoujo was my first visual novel and I liked it well enough. The comedy parts where funny and the sad parts managed to be sad without going for cheap tears which gets bonus points with me. I do think whoever wrote Shizune's route needs to look up what the word "comfort" means. Oh, and Team Shizune (and Misha) for Life. |
