Why has the Crunchyroll Avi's been locked?

The crunchyroll Avi's for each user have been locked to a certain size once it has been changed, why?

As has been said many times, avatar pictures now have a hard cap of 200x200. This was instituted because people did not respect the previous 200x500 "soft" limit.
