This isn't new; heard about it like a month ago. Wonder why people are just starting to hear about it
My position, and perhaps this will piss some people off (not that I care), is that if she was old enough to decide on having sex, then she's old enough to deal with the consequences.
I do not believe she was raped, as they stated in the article I read that they were looking for the father. Also, if it was rape, I'm sure she would've said something by now to keep her from getting a heavier sentence.
Additionally, her family is also to blame; bad parenting and ignorance are not excusable. How could you not see someone is pregnant? I do hope they charge the father as well. He deserves an almost equal sentence. She shouldn't suffer alone, as it takes two to tango.

She clearly needs some kind of mental help. At the very least, her punishment will involve knowing that she killed her own child, and that is a life-sentence.

Parents need to be more involved with their children. They also need to learn how to raise kids and be fucking responsible! Disclipline them damn it. I think the child should get psych help. Also I think the parents should take classes on how to tell if a child is pregnant course or how to be a good and responsible parent. Whenever I hear about this I think where were the parents in all of this. And you know maybe the parents were not to blame, in some cases but if the parents are strict with their kids then I am sure you will not see as many of these unfortunate incidents. Also you will not see as many teen pregnancies.

I agree completely.. And how someone can fail to notice that their daugther is pregnant? I mean really, it's not exactly hard to tell in the later stages..

It's interesting though, how she'd be an completely normal/random teenager if I'd seen her somewhere else, but having read the story all I see is an "bad person" when I look at her picture.. They use her being 14 as an reason to go milder with the penalty, you'd think that at 14 years old people would've been able to tell that killing an baby and hiding it in an shoebox is wrong.. She could've "easily" given the baby up for adoption..

Something is fundementally wrong when you'd rather take a life than face your mother..

Wait who said anything about hate? I really like America and visited once. There's no need to take that personal.

Frankly, come on. The de-funding of abortions is incredibly stupid. By saying that I don't mean to diss on America as a whole, there's just some things I find ridiculous. I'm sure people could say tons of bad things about my country as well, heck there's things about my own country I find really off.

America plays a huge role in interactions between countries, it's only natural they will get a lot of spotlight as you put it. It's like famous people, others for sure will always have an opinion about them and the things they do, it doesn't equal hate towards them.

YOU didn't say anything about hate, but its because everyone knows America's every move that there is so much hate directed towards the country - that was my point; I was not getting on to you.

I myself am only half American, and have been there a few times, but I have family there and it's very annoying to constantly see so much hate everywhere (media, internet etc.) directed towards that country.

Fair enough, but you chose to quote my words and you made some assumptions based on a single sentence, hence why I concluded you saw that as hateful on my part, but okay that was not the case.

I understand your frustrations. There's a lot of hate going on, that's true, but just imagine the hate directed towards some Middle-Eastern countries. They basically have the whole world against them. Not saying it's not bad towards America, just trying to put some perspective on things.

I'd rather not stray further away from the actual topic, it totally sidestepped. All I can say is I really do get why you get annoyed, I just hope you won't take it too much to heart. People are full of shit and ass backward opinions and they always will be.

Yes, I see how I came off now and I'd like to apologize for that.

I'm just incredibly tired of people not from America who constantly put the country down acting like their own countries are sheer perfection and America is hell on earth. What really annoyes me on this particular website is the people who worship Japan as the greatest thing ever; a really perfect country.

Gosh...I'm not even going to get into Japan's issues and lies to the outside world.

But yes, I also see your point on Middle-Eastern countries - and people! I have a few friends who are from the Middle-East originally, and they get a lot of racism and hate from ignorant people.

Once again, I am sorry for the misunderstanding.

Ignorance truly is a disease upon the mind of man.

I feel like there is more to this story. I think finding out who the father is may play a key point in this.

I think she was just scared and panicking. I couldn't imagine being preggers at 14. It might have been the fear from her parents reactions, she may have heard things about pregnant teens. She probably just wanted it all to go away. I think she snapped and lost it.

At some point she probably really believed and became determined to go through the entire pregnancy without telling anyone.

I wish she would have told her parents, or the aunts were more headstrong about confronting her mom about it. If the parents knew I doubt this would happen. I do believe she felt guilt otherwise why would she clean the baby, and hide it under her bed long enough for it to leave an odor? I think she's going to need some serious counseling after this.

Where did you hear America was defunding abortions?

There was a women in rehab who had a miscarriage and threw the fetus in the trash. Ate her up so much she began drinking heavily. Grim stuff.

Not the first or last time for this type of incident.

In her case, fear and lies caused her to think less of it as a baby and more of a problem. Lies continued, months passed, she probably kept on the same path. With each lie and fear, and accusations from her aunts, she gradually stop considering it as a life in any meaningful way and just wanted it out of her life.

She obviously will need help, for multiple reasons, but we should, as a nation, realize the pressure we put on children and how it's capable of influencing their behavior and processing.

When a child is more afraid of what her parents will say or do because of her pregnancy, than the actual murder of a human being, you can only imagine the parents impressing the wrong priorities on the girl.

Still say juvie is the only option for her. She can receive treatment during her sentence.

I'm sorry, but your last three paragraphs are a complete load of hippie crap. What has happened to personal accountability? At 14, you should damn well know that a murder is wrong, and that murdering your own baby is monstrous. Yes, she is only a child herself, but it is obvious that she thought about nothing but herself and how being pregnant affected HER life. At some point people are going to have to stop pointing fingers and take responsibility for their own actions. Every choice she made, from the decision to hide her pregnancy and lie to her family, to the cold-blooded murder of her baby, was HER own decision. And the fact that she chose this path to follow just shows that she knew every step was wrong, from having sex in the first place to murder. One could even argue that it isn't the parents impressing the wrong priorities on the girl, but society itself.

There isn't enough information to discuss about this: was she raped, who was the father, how old was the father, and if she could have supported the child, because lets face it, children cost a lot of money
