한글 (조선글)
한글 - South Korean Term ll 조선글 - North Korean Term

So there are no rules! Now you might ask how can I know my Korean(한글) name?
There are two ways: first is to create an imaginary name, second is to write your existing name in hangul based on phonetics!

1. Method for Creating a Korean Name based on birth date:

I. Surname : Korean surname is the
last number in your year of birth.

0: Park
1: Kim
2: Shin
3: Choi
4: Song
5: Kang
6: Han
7: Lee
8: Sung
9: Jung

II. Middle name : is your month of birth.

1: Yong
2: Ji
3: Je
4: Hye
5: Dong
6: Sang
7: Ha
8: Hyo
9: Soo
10: Eun
11: Hyun
12: Rae

III. Name : is your date of birth.

1: Hwa
2: Woo
3: Joon
4: Hee
5: Kyo
6: Kyung
7: Wook
8: Jin
9: Jae
10: Hoon
11: Ra
12: Bin
13: Sun
14: Ri
15: Soo
16: Rim
17: Ah
18: Ae
19: Neul
20: Mun
21: In
22: Mi
23: Ki
24: Sang
25: Byung
26: Seok
27: Gun
28: Yoo
29: Sup
30: Won
31: Sub

2. Method of Creating a Korean name using a name generator:
Hangul Name Generator

Click the link and follow the directions. The name generator takes gender and your given name into account to create an appropriate name in Korean. You may alter the name you enter into the generator to get a favorable result ( note that the name you enter must be written in three parts for the generator to work properly)

3. If you wish to write your existing name into Hangul (한글) you may refer to Google Translate or the Hangul Alphabet Chart

My name is Mao, so my Hangul (한글) name is written like this - '마오'

Google Translate may not translate your name as you please. For intance, the name 'Bixi' cannot be translated by GoogleT because there is no equivilant of 'x' in Korean, but if you use the Korean letters wisely the name can be written like this: 비시 or 빅씨 . Cute right?

Q. How did I translate her name?

A. It's pretty easy. The Korean letter 'ᄇ' is romanized as B or P in English and 'ᅵ' is romanized as i.
Now, the question was how did I get the letter 'X' when there is no letter 'X' in Korean?
'X' is likened to 'S' since it makes a similar sound. the letter S is 'ᄉ'
it is also possible to combine the sound 'k' / 'ㄱ' with the 's'/ 'ㅅ' to create the 'X' sound.
[note: when ㅅ is followed by the vowelㅣ, it is typically pronounced as (sh) ]
the letter 'ㅆ' / 'Ss' may be preferable to create an aspirated 'S' sound

Q. Once you have determined the letters, how do you construct them into characters?
A. Korean letters are constructed into characters by syllable.

e.i. Bixi has two syllables so it will have two characters:
if written as '비시' it is divided as 'bi' & 'si'
if written as '빅씨' is is divided as 'bik' & 'ssi'

Q. How about your name, Mao? first determine the appropriate letters
M =ㅁ a =ㅏ o = ㅗ
Mao has one syllable but it is not possible to construct 'ao' in a single syllable so it is written as two and divided as 'ma' & 'o'
in Hangul it is written as '마오'
Q.Why is the second syllable written like this '오'?
A. In Korean, a syllable cannot begin with a vowel like 'ㅗ' so when a syllable starts with a vowel 'ㅇ,' which is silent, is inserted before the vowel.

note that the pronuciation of a letter may change based on its placement within a word or character and specific letters are oriented specific ways. For detailed direction on the construction of Korean you might refer the following links-

Well anyways, this is just for fun so I hope you Enjoy!
