Alright, this was literally painstaking to choose number 4 and 5 as I can't say that I would 100% be locked down with them. There are a large quantity of characters out there I absolutely adore, so to only choose 5 was difficult.
5. Kamijou Touma - To Aru Majutsu no Index

What an interesting hero. His one and only power being the ability to nullify powers with his right hand. Despite the unbearable amount of terrible luck the Imagine Breaker brought him, he still always managed to play the hero and do the right thing. Perhaps all the hype Railgun placed on him put him at an even higher regard for me.

4. Otonashi Yuzuru - Angel Beats

Otonashi is an incredibly admirable character. In life he lived a rather depressing life that he managed to turn around into something admirable. In the end his life ended, but with accomplishment he still found himself mistakenly in an afterlife meant only for those stricken with regret. Despite making tight-knit friendships with the members of the SSS he displayed an incredible amount of selflessness again by helping them accept the lives they had so they could move on to the next life. He did this despite knowing that these important friends would no longer remember him in the next life.
3. Hibari Kyoya - Hitman Reborn

This character is the absolute definition of badass. Again and again he has broken the rules of shounen anime/manga to suit himself. Even when all the odds and stereotypes of a shounen manga were against him in the Gola Mosca fight he managed to not only defeat Gola Mosca, but ended the fight in his opening move as well as winning the Vongola Ring battle for the entire team before Tsuna got to even fight. Akira Toriyama would be turning over in his grave if he were dead.
2. Lucy Heartfilia - Fairy Tail

You have to respect a female character who plays the main character of a shounen anime/manga. That aside she's a very strong character both in battle and emotionally. Despite things getting better for all the rest of the cast in Fairy Tail, the situation for Lucy seems to continue to deteriorate. Regardless Lucy always manages to hold her head high and press on with everyone else. She cares deeply for all of her friends in Fairy Tail. Of course while it's not against her to occasionally throw out a few tsukkomis, especially at Natsu's expense, she isn't as easily offended as your standard shounen heroine making her a fun character.
1. Uchiha Sasuke - Naruto

Just barely ahead of Lucy, mostly due to senority, is Uchiha Sasuke. Probably the first character I ever took a major liking to in anime. Sasuke is probably one of the first rivals to start the trend of the rival character always having the one up on the hero. While Sasuke seems to garner a lot of hate from fans he truly lived through a complicated and pitiable situation. Sasuke lived his whole life to kill the brother who murdered his family only to find his brother actually did so because of a lose-lose situation placed on him from their village. With his goal shattered infront of him and with the belief that all his old friends from Konoha were looking down on him, Sasuke lost his mind. In spite of this Sasuke obtains an incredible power and continues to tear apart the foundations of the ninja world. While most of the characters on this list I respect for their heroism, Sasuke I respect for his tragedy.
