Emiya Kiritsugu/ Sakata Gintoki -- Fate Series/ Gintama
For a long time, I've noticed that there's sort of two sides to my personality, and when I first saw both of these characters, they reminded me of each of those sides. On the one hand, there's a part of me that wants to build his life on a rigorous system of logic, and act on it. The other side of me wants to just kick back and observe/reflect on everything. Either way, I've noticed that it's my ideas that guide me, and both of those characters seem, together, to embody that trait. Maybe it's weird to think of Gin-san as a thinker, but that is nonetheless, what I like about him.

Just as an aside, I think that Kyouko has one of the most beautiful and moving episodes of self-sacrifice in all of anime--and it sickens me how it was negated in the series.

Also, I find Ai to be one of the most absolutely tragic figures I've ever encountered, on a par perhaps with Shakespeare's King Lear. Her only friend proved a coward--I'd have died like a dog at her feet protecting her!

Kyouko's death was sort of pushed aside, but I think that's the reality of the whole show. Just like with Mami's death. Speaking of self-sacrifice Masane from Witchblade is a great example of this. Speaking of tragic figures, Shinji Ikari and Asuka Langley Shikinami from Neon Genesis Evangelion are primary examples of this. So are the Ein, Zwei, and Drei in Phantom: Requiem for the Phantom. Sayaki Miki from Puella Magi Madoka Magica as well. There's so many examples of tragic characters.
