Cosplaying, why do some people not "get it"?
|
So I was told by 2 people yesterday on GaiaOnline that they do not like cosplaying and do not understand why people would waste their time and money on it.
This is something I do not understand, as I love to cosplay and I feel like I always will. www.facebook.com/natsuocosplay That is my cosplay page. I love to expand people's knowledge about the industry and I would love to see more cosplayers in Ohio, because none of my friends are cosplayers and I would love to have a cosplay buddy! |

Everyone thinks that some things are pointless. Those same things that are pointless to some have meaning to others. It's all subjective.
As for your specific case, I too think cosplaying is could be fun. I haven't tried it, but it's basically Halloween any day of the year. I guess those two you mentioned just don't like dressing up like anime characters. |

Are you okay with your current position?

I guess some people probably feel like money should be spent on other things, but having a hobby keeps you happy! |

Is this possibly because girl characters are easier to portray than male characters? A lot of time I find male characters to look feminine, and that could be why a lot of guys decide against cosplaying. |

I think ppl cosplaying is cool.
But personally I don't have the body and look to cosplay so I just enjoy looking at cosplayers instead ^_^ |

I betcha if you knew more about those two people that there's plenty of things they do that's "pointless".

Well one of them said they are always so busy with work that they would rather spend their time with their parents and family. I'm not a very family oriented person so that may be part of the reason. I respect the desire to want to be around family too. But sewing with the family or doing family cosplays can also be a great bonding experience! |

I haven't cosplayed, and I possibly never will, due to my fear of dressing up ( I wont let people draw whiskers or owt on me) but I love to see people dressed up as characterised. It really shows people creative side and how much imagination they have, plus people feel more confident and will be generally nicer to talk to at conventions. Oh I do detest people who class them selves as cosplayers, when they go to Argos and but a cheap £10 nurses costume and a pink wig, calling them selves Nurse Joy.

I think it's the same as dressing up for Halloween except for maybe more attention to detail. I dunno. I rather enjoy going places where people cosplay and are down-to-earth. Nice environment, nice people. I've never cosplayed before, though. Costumes on the market are ugly and I'd want a perfect match for whoever I'm trying to be, yet I'm too lazy to craft my own costume.
